This is the way! I’ve watched about a dozen videos, some twice. I watched yours once but it didn’t show up in my history. I couldn’t find it again. All I could find in my search was either cutting the top apart or welding corners together or overlapping the corners. Anyway, I started taking things apart. Once I got things apart, the only thing that made since was riveting the two cabinets together. I ended up moving the drawer slides so the 1/2 width, shallow drawers are side by side and the 1/2 width, deep drawers are side by side. New sub here. Thank you for the video.

Researched every place I could find information on stacking the Harbor Freight 5 drawer chests. Including the Facebook StackCartGang group. After watching yours about a dozen times. I decided I didn’t want to hack my carts up and followed your instructions. The only thing I did that was different is - I already had a work tray on the first cart I had which is a Series 2. The next cart I got is a Series 3. I purchased another work tray to mount on the right side. Before actually drilling holes and mounting the cabinet on the right side. I took the time to figure out how to mount the tray. Turned out to be really easy. I drilled 4 new mounting holes into both the tray and side of the cabinet. The lid on the top wouldn’t close without a bit of help. I had 4 3/8” spacers which allowed for closing the drawer. Last thing to do was mount the cabinet. I cut some spacers from scrap wood and made a platform that came up even with the bottom of the cabinet. Would you believe the bottom lined up just right. The best part is, the top of the cabinet lined up with the bottom of the work tray. So, I ended up with 10 drawers, side cabinet, 2 can shelves and 2 work tables. With the lid closed, I have even more work area. Oh yea, forgot to mention I put on 4 swivel casters. Just wanted to thank you for the inspiration to do this project. I’m just a little bit away from 76 and this wasn’t easy for me. Took me two weeks working as my old body would allow.

That side cabinet has a loop originally. Grab some steel strapping and make a hook that it can snap into and be pulled open by a handle…

I am in the process of doing this myself. When it comes to riveting them together did you have a gap on the sides where they meet

PSA: You can buy an extra two locking swivel caster from HF that are the ones you find from the cart originally. Call up their parts department and just ask for the swivel casters that come in the box originally and they can send em to you.

I think it is. Played with the Yukon chest in the store and wasn't impressed with the quality. At the end of the day though, if money is a concern, I'd rather save $ on the box and spend it on better quality tools instead.

I'm here to tell you that your 4 caster mod may work in a small shop or service bay, but I had a box given to me here at work. It had 4 casters. My work area is the size of 2 football fields, on weekends I may be on the other end of the building, which by the way is 60 acres. The first time you push a 4 caster box full of tools 1000' you'll quickly learn that they suck!

I purchased the two carts and all the extras from HF during their parking lot sale last Summer for a bit of a discount. I think the carts are $199.99 each right now. I'm going to guess I paid around $500 altogether for the whole build, including all the extra hardware, folding trays, extra handles, etc.

A few dollars???? Try $200. These carts are less than $200 a piece. The full bank cart is retailing at $600. Not to mention the full bank cart is too high to use as a work table unless your 6'5" and up. I'm definitely doing this.
@victorhoyt43528 ай бұрын
@@RoughRaiders13 those full banks are always on sale for $499.99. They are on sale for that price more than they aren't on sale. They also have several additional features that this custom built one does not have. I'm not saying anything against you. You do you bro, but it's just a lot of extra nonsense for no reason. You did a good job though 👍

@AidanLynch2085 ай бұрын
@@victorhoyt4352you def don’t see those full bank service carts on sale for that sale (17% off) that often and if it is it’s 10-15%. Not sure what these “several additional features” are beside the fact that it’s too tall to use as a flat top unless you tower over everyone. For the price of the one 34” full bank service cart @$600 I have 2 carts stacked with a side cabinet putting me at 50” with 16 drawers…but keep telling yourself it’s nonsense and for no reason👍🏼
@Outofphocus9373 ай бұрын
@@RoughRaiders13 You're thinking of the 4-drawer tech cart. The 5-drawer tool carts that he used are $280, sometimes $250 on sale, so you're spending a ton of time and maybe saving $100, and still have less overall usable storage space.

Would it work to have all the narrow width drawers by each other (so everything matches and looks more like “factory”)? Just mount the center rail at the bottom right below the other, but would that still work when it comes to making everything lock? Also, in order to make the bottom section lock, you just cut off the 10mm difference off the top locking slides?
