Norman Wisdom, brilliant, just brilliant. No wonder Charlie Chaplin called him his comedian. And yet Norman had a very hard, brutal, and tragic childhood. His mother and father separated, and his father left him without means, brutalised him and his elder brother, finally disowning him. It was only when, as a down and out youth in London that someone at a all night cafe stall took pity on him and suggested that he should try and enter the army, that his fortune changed. Norman pleaded with the recruiter to take him on, despite lying that he knew music and being found out by the recruiter that he knew nothing. The recruiter felt so sad and sympathetic about Normans situation that he took him on, and Norman entered the army. He was in the Buffs Regiment. In the army he found a family of people around him that would feed, house, clothe, discipline, develop his musical talent extensively, develop his boxing to becoming the fly weight champion of the army, and horse riding, finally helping him to progress to greater things in his life after demob. The army gave Norman a home and his chance to shine, and Norman took hold of every opportunity the army offered with both hands. He never forgot. Indeed Norman himself often said that he owed 100% of everything he was to the army. God bless you Norman for all the joy you gave us. Upstairs now making the Angels fall around with laughter. The lawnmower scene is classic. The only person who came anywhere close to this was Michael Crawford in Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em, but Normans performance still has me in stitches laughing every time and he did it first.

The lawn mower scene will always be a classic and I have never laughed so much in my life. 🤣 Norman Wisdom was a very funny man and I liked it when he shouts MR GRIMSDALE!!!

Absolutely 💯 ,and in the film A stitch in time Mr grimsdales in hospital due to swallowing his gold watch and chain ,of all things ,Mr grimsdale turns to Norman ' I'm sinking fast pitkin ,I can hear the Angels singing ' .. as Mr grimsdale falls asleep Norman bellows in his ear ' Grimsdale you dropped Orff !! ' and they both decide they want to work in the said hospital ' you could be a surgeon Mr grimsdale ' ..' that's feesable pitkin ,sign us up at once ' 😅😂

' ere Mr grimsdale you got a bigger apple than mine ' Mr grimsdale replies ' well you got the smaller one so than evens things out pitkin ' and when he puts Nellie the horse in the bed he comfort's her and says ' night nell you'll feel better in the morning ' I agree all his film's are marvelous,I just Love him , in the film ' a stitch in time ' theirs an intruder in the butcher's where pitkin and Mr grimsdale works together ,Norman says to Mr grimsdale ' your gold watch and chain ,hide it ' Norman instructs Mr grimsdale to put ' the watch and chain in your mouth ' Norman looks at Mr grimsdale and says ' you got a bit hanging ' pointing at the chain dangling from Mr grimsdales mouth ,then the villan firs the gun ,poor Mr grimsdale days to Norman ' I've swallowed it ' then the ambulance arrives all hell brakes loose ' pitkin how longs the ambulance going to be ? ' .Norman replies ' about 17 feet Mr grimsdale ' 😅 and takes over the ambulance crew ' Mr grimsdales swallowed his gold watch and chain ' ..this film is Norman wisdom's favourite film he made he said ,.it's called , A stitch in time ,

0.11 That looks like the US Embassy place in WHO DARES WINS where the SAS did their op against the People's Lobby!! Now, back to The Early Bird . . . one of Wisdom's funniest, sometimes for the wrong reasons, you have to clock the awful SFX in this movie which add to the comedy value!!

The imposing building (seen at 2.37) is the Pinewood Studios main building seen also in "From Russia With Love", made in 1963, in the scene where Rosa Klebb has arrived by helicopter to receive her instructions.
