Talking to each other while marching is unacceptable for a military band. Removing the instruments together doesn't work either.

OK, a couple things here. I'm a lifelong military historian and a US Army veteran. I'm also a Civil War reenactor who marches in three parades a year with my unit, two on Independence Day and one on Veterans Day. So I've been to more than one 'dog and pony show'. I have more than a vague notion of what I'm talking about here. 1. Why is it that most content creators just love showing the band and almost never the troops? The troops are the reason why the frikkin' band is there to begin with, and you rarely if ever see the band doing the dangerous stuff... not to say that they don't work hard, they do, but you're not gonna see a military bandsman walking a patrol in the back ass of nowhere. 2. In this particular band's case, the drummers did a good job [it's special kind of miserable trying to march in step when the frikkin' drummer is off], but the rest of the band had the military bearing of wet mop. I don't know who is in charge of them, but somebody needs to put some backbone in them. They weren't 'marching', they were 'strolling along in step'. You don't have to march like you're in a North Korean military parade, but at least have enough pride in yourself and your unit to look the part when you're in front of the public.
@jimspink29222 жыл бұрын
I dont know about the French Army but in the Australian Army members of the bands are also trained first aiders to a very high standard and stretcher bearers. Also the band members of the Royal Marines in the UK are also do the Marines Commando Course as well so they are fully combat trained as well.
@carlhicksjr84012 жыл бұрын
@@jimspink2922 Isn't the RM band members unique then? As I understand it [and there is high likelihood I'm wrong here], most of HM's band members go to Band School primarily and then have a secondary orientation course for the band they're joining. After all, the Bugles of the Rifles is gonna be very different than the Band of the Guards. But RM bandsmen are fully qualified replacements for a Marine line company?
@mikec98102 жыл бұрын
I agree with your second point - they were just ambling along. Their gold epaulettes are almost comical, they are so big. And as for the scruffy bloke in camouflage shambling along rolling up his sleeves, he was an absolute disgrace and shouldn't have been allowed out in public.
@carlhicksjr84012 жыл бұрын
@@mikec9810 If the old gent in camo was a veteran of the unit allowed to march with them, well, I'm fine with that. Like I say, I march in three parades a year and I haven't had to pass a PT test since a good deal *before* this century kicked off 😁 But yeah, the rest of the band looked like a prime example of what my old platoon sergeant called 'be-bopping down the Goddamn street like a pimp on payday'... lol!
