Be careful in terms of dispensing medication to autistic child. Meds of steroid based, hormone altering, paraben preservatives, antibiotics, antihistamines, and so on might cause extreme allergy to the child.

I have been there with the upset getting off the jump jump. It is hard sometimes. We are currently trying to get our son an Autism Service animal. We have hope it will help in public places and with his anxiety around people and in stores especially. The meltdowns are the hardest for him to recover from.

This was wonderful, thank you! All kids should get to grow up with a dog, it is wonderful, and they learn so much. Being an only child left home alone a lot, my dog was a godsend. Having him there with me made it ok, and I never really felt alone because my best friend was always there. I'd probably be in therapy if I didn't have a dog as a kid..

Why are people disliking this uplifting story ? My Sisters child who is also called Alex has Autism. He's 3 but the most amazing and intelligent boy in the world. I have 2 dogs(not service dogs) but they have a really good calming effect on him when he comes visit me. We are fighting to get him into mainstream school. I personally highly disagree with autism service dogs. They mostly just seem to be trained ESA's. The only thing I see them really trained in is putting up with the kids bullcrap so that the parents don't have to. I've seen highly autistic kids rip and drag at their dog's harnesses, scream at the top of their lungs straight into the dog's ear, and rip at their tail and ears. It's just abuse for the animal from what I've seen. And sometimes I see the poor dogs getting their heads dragged around by 3 or 4 leashes attached to their face and back.

I have autism but dogs give me severe anxiety. What works for some people might not for others. But i hope this kuds parents try to get him to learn to use one of those communication devices, so that he can better communicate with them.

But what's the dog's task? If the dog doesn't task, if the dog isn't trained to do a task to physically help Alex, then he is just an emotional support dog. Which do not have public access.
