It was "Dancer" that brought me here. I love the film and have watched it many times. Was a dancer in my childhood youth, but unlike Sergei's parents, mine wouldn't lift a finger to help tho they took great joy in bragging about having a daughter who people admired for her dancing talent. Dancing and training in ballet since I was 5 years old. At age 11, when I was admitted to the New York City Ballet training school (the US equivalent to Britain's Royal Ballet at the time), I had to go by myself to downtown Brooklyn on the NYC subway in the late afternoon after school and come home on it alone after dark. Tho I was 11 turning 12, I was not yet physically maturing. I was a late "bloomer" physically and still looked like a little girl of 9 or 10 years of age, One night, a man saw me walking home from the subway alone in the dark and tried to "befriend" me and convince me to come with him. Fortunately, I had good instincts and didn't respond. And fortunately, where we were walking, there were some other people around. So he gave up. If he had walked with me a couple of blocks more, we would have been in a dark place and no one around. I was lucky he didn't kidnap me. I told my parents when I got home; my dad called the police. They came to the house but it became clear my dad just wanted the attention for himself. So they questioned me but there was little I could tell them. There was not much I could say about what the man looked like. So the police just left. After that, my mother still made me go alone to the ballet school. I started resisting going. I didn't understand why at that time - I loved dance, ballet and modern - I didn't understand till decades later that I was resisting due to fear because of what happened to me. But my mother told me that if I didn't go, I'd have to give up ballet. I loved ballet so much. I started dancing when I was 3, just like Sergei and I couldn't stop. I would dance anywhere and everywhere, in stores, while online for the movies, and people's homes. But somehow, I couldn't make myself go to the ballet school. I grieved giving up ballet. When I reached 14 years old, finally physically maturing, having grown over 8 inches, I was no longer afraid to go places by myself. I started to take ballet classes again, but I lost much of my talent. You have to be dance training all through your childhood physical maturity so your muscles and agility grow properly for dance. It was too late by the time I felt old enough and savvy enough to go on my own. I grieved the loss of my dance life for years, But while in college, I developed academic inclinations and went on into university academia. It was then I was able to let go of the grief of losing dance. Because I knew then that one's dancing career and abilities started to decline after 30 - whereas intellectual pursuits lasted a lifetime. I am about to turn 75 and I am still teaching and writing and publishing. I am also very physically active. But I still miss dance. And I have watched "Dancer" many times over. I watched it again tonight and this time, sought out this song. Glad to have found it.

the first ii ever heard lykke it was this song but it was on s sidewalk in a city and a fan wad hollering in their direction and her percussionist was playing on the rail and playing a tiny keyboard for percussion . i was transformed nothing has been the same since ii play four of her song regularly at events, this one included, they do get requested even tho my audience is unfamiliarity with lykke. all of her air-play is in the over-sea.

Her off key, flat, and thin voice is excusable because she tells us right off that she's a dancer... okay, she's a spinner and a skipper. At least she didn't get dizzy and throw up on somebody.

Having trouble telling how I feel But I can dance, dance, dance Couldn't possibly tell you how I mean But I can dance, dance, dance So when I'm tripping my feet, look at the beat The words are written in the sand When I'm shaking my hips, look for the swing The words are written in the air Ooh dance, I was a dancer all along Dance, dance, dance Words could never make up for what you do Easy conversations, no such thing No, I'm shy, shy, shy My hips they lie cause in reality I'm shy, shy, shy So when I'm tripping my feet, look at the ground The words are written in the dust When I'm shaking my hips, look for the swing The words are written in the air Ooh dance, I was a dancer all along Dance, dance, dance Words could never make up for what you do Ooh dance, I was a dancer all along Dance, dance, dance Words could never make up for what you do Ooh dance, I was a dancer all along Dance, dance, dance Words could never make up for what you do Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance Dance, dance, dance
