Dillas beats sounded so simple but there was more going on then what u would think like micro rhythms the way he processed his drums the way he side chained his bass and the way he chopped his samples even if the track was just drums bassline and piano sample there was lots of other things going on only people who know nothing about producing thinks he's overated if u produce yourself you know how good dilla actually was ..every body is trying to use the dilla formula now especially the dilla swung drums dillas drums where never sloppy but producer are over doing it now

I would also add the wrist stroke a la Papa Jo and Sam Woodyard...otherwise you'll be a cat with great finger technique bit a weak beat like some many drummers in this generation. Great video...just add the wrist piece.

Really well explained! I've been playing for many years and sometimes still have trouble with determining what the time signature is to a particular song! You are very clear and concise in not only your explanation but also in your playing what you're talking about! Great job! I wish it came that easy to me! BTW - the most challenging music I play with odd time signatures is by Frank Zappa (especially "Keep it Greasy" which is in 19/16 - Vinnie Colaiuta) and John McGlaughlin Mahavishnu Orchestra (Billy Cobham).

Thank you, stoked to hear you enjoyed the vid mate! It took a lot of practice to be honest haha- I was obsessed with learning odd time sigs when I was younger so put a lot of hours in! Ah yes mate, gotta love Zappa and Mahavishnu! Thanks for watching! Alex 👊

My fav too! Wouldn't surprise me if Tony would have played the main groove with left hand hitting the hi-hat and right hand hitting the floor tom. Looks awkward to play with hands crossed. Cheerz

Sick. This is what actually i want to know. I want to learn fill in or frases like Timemodulation, which makes me lose track of the beat. luv from Japan, sorry for my poor English, do you get it?
@DrumHubTuition2 ай бұрын
Sick, glad to help out! The thing that worked for me is to spend a long time in each time signature individually instead of learning to play in loads of signatures at once. Then just gradually tick them off! Hope that helps! Your English is great! Alex 👊
