Really great! Just discovered another great trombone player, thank you! And that "pepperpot" mute was invented by the great Dicky Wells - he's using it here on the 1961 performance of Blues In F - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIrXe5Sef9yKZrM In his book he said he also gave a mute like this to Tommy Dorsey

Thanks for the inspiration. I have a valve trombone and a Flugalbone. It’s been 6 months since I last played them. Covid has been awful with no opportunities to play together with friends. Time to get going again.

~ neither fish nor fowl. Who needs this? Make up your mind. How about a clarinet trombone? Just as soon as you use the valves, it sounds like a different instrument. It is: a valve trombone. Years ago the Holton company made these for Maynard Ferguson and me. It wasn't as in tune as this new one, but it was unusable on musical terms. Young players should not be looking for technological improvements. Embrace the beautiful sound of the slide trombone, and then learn to deal with it's limitations. A good well-tuned valve trombone is still far better than this hybred.
