The Arcade 1up hobby might be dying, but not for arcade machines in general. If you want a Q*Bert machine but there isn’t a 1up version, build one from scratch. It’s a fun thing to do and you learn woodworking and electronics along the way. I’ve just finished my Pac-Man cabaret replica build over on my channel. It means so much more to me because I built it myself, rather than a mass produced item.

3:52 Business as usual here. Few things: 1: Will the employees stick around for a store closure sell off? Discounted low demand items basically while higher will be standard price before shipping to another location that will sell for the same amount. 2: If abandon ship routine is likely with the team then you expect a pack it up and go immediately. Distribution going thru the website is more convenient and cheaper than having sales on closing doors. 3: Leasing retail locations are becoming unprofitable in certain locations due to saturation as well as physical copies aren’t the only supply for demand. While I personally prefer to have a physical copy of my product over digital, I have never resold any of my games or consoles. Product availability? Blame Temu type platforms, crooks “backing up their copy” and selling (which can ban legitimate gamers buying used) along with GameStop themselves for accepting the trade in due to a minimum wage job with nonstop Karen style customers who eventually stop caring. I haven’t been to a store without someone trying to hustle the workers as if they are on pawnstars. Not all customers ruined GameStop by nonsense. Not all employees ruined it either by not caring. 🤷‍♂️ I’d hate to see it go but also fully understand the why if it did.

Buying these things off the shelf may have died down, but the hobby is still here to stay. If one was as talented as Anthony Vitale, you could literally build your own machine! I agree about the $500 price tag being the absolutely most for a machine you want - that’s the price I paid for Dragons Lair when it went on sale at Best Buy… and I was willing to pay that price only because of the steep discounts I got on my other machines!

I was 11 when Pac Man came out, so I grew up on Pac Man, Galaga and Centepede and the other real early games. You're a bit younger, so naturally you like more modern, advanced games that require more power and cost more money. I thinknits reached it's ceiling in the $500 price point
