You did real good…right up until you use the Phillips head screws. Should have stayed with slotted screws. I build and rebuild WWII era wooden crates and the Military contractors never used Phillips even though they were around since the late 30’s. Slotted screws really help “date” a piece imho.

I love the wood craftsmanship on the Doors. I didn’t care for the grey paint.

Please take care of that Identity Card. It is a tangible connection to a world beyond our comprehension. A remnant of what Britain was like for six frightening years. Both my parents were kids during the war. I have both of their Identity Cards framed and mounted and on VE day my mum was given a material Union Jack flag about 20x15 inches. Only last year did I come across it. It's incredibly frayed and fragile, but I had it carefully framed and mounted in honour of my mum but also everyone who came through the horror of WW2 and also those who gave their lives, so that today, you can restore furniture, and I can watch you on YT.

This truly shows the difference between old fashioned furniture / school desks vs modern ones. Unless someone has purchased very high quality furniture the chances of it having dove tails and mortise and tenons especially with shims for the ideal fit are slim to none. That type of work is old school (no pun intended). Thanks for disassembling this and sharing your process.

It both sounds and looks like a white oak variety. Tough to work with sometimes. I found my angle grinder and 36 Grit flap wheel well with sanding a very hard wood.
