This is not true, you don't get ALL the bonuses you crossed, just the one where your essence ends up in. The rulebook clarifies that you still get the round glasses bonuses in addition to the special patient bonus. You definitely don't add up all the VP bonuses nor do you always gain a rat tail if you have more than one essence. ;)

​@@papav3r Aren't the victory points and rat stones always in round glasses? That's why those are all applied (if you crossed them), but definitely you don't get every bonus in the oval glasses. So the cards where there are 1, 1, 2, and 2 VP for essence space 7, 8, 9, 10 (respectively), if you get to space 10, you get all 6 VP (plus any rat stones crossed before). How else are you applying that rule?

​@GerryMentlemen Looking over the rules again, I think you might be right. It's only the bonuses in the spherical glasses (points and rat stones) that we were stacking though, not the oval glass shapes, otherwise yes that would be way too many bonuses. I was interpreting when it says, "Points and rat stones (plural) are always bonuses that you receive in addition to your patient bonus or patient action (singular)." And then the following bullet point: "If your current space displays a bonus in an oval glass, your patient chart will tell you when you will receive the bonus (singular)." I thought it was saying the oval glasses were examples of the patient bonus/action (of which you get one), as opposed to the spherical glasses that you'd "always" receive "in addition", meaning they'd stack. Anyway, it's how our family plays and we'll probably continue to play that way. It's nice to be rewarded with 6 victory points for getting all 10 essences (for some of the patients). Our games are still quite competitive when we all choose different patients, too.

@GerryMentlemen Actually re-reread the rules, I think the way our family has been playing is right. The game differentiates patient bonuses from rats/points on the patient cards. How else can you "always receive points and rat stones *in addition* to the patient bonus" (paraphrasing), when the ovals in the cards ARE patient bonuses? And again, I never said to stack patient bonuses (ovals), just rats and points.

There are 8 colors (red, blue, green, orange, yellow, black, purple, and locoweed). Add 1 for 7 cherry bomb. And 1 for your opponent exploding. We're wondering what happens if someone gets to 11 or more. (There are a couple of fortune teller cards that grant extra essence.)

Hm that’s a good question Josh. There are definitely a few edge cases mixing everything together. I like your idea of picking the reward that makes sense to me

Glad you enjoy it, we appreciate you checking it out! From our first impressions we like the new variety added with the new cards and loco weed tiles for replay ability. The new phase does make the game longer so I think I personally would play the game with either the herb witches expansion or this one to not bog the game down too much. But the essence boards and patients provide a fun distraction I just wouldn’t play with it every time just to keep things fresh.
