Sailor Moon, as a character, is focused on themes of love and acceptance, so, while the more overt queer themes were broadly relegated to other characters, even in those other characters' stories, Usagi/ Sailor Moon, would have some liminal role to play in it. It happens a LOT in the 90's anime, as the monster-of-the-week format resulted in the need for more character focus, expansion and development here and there, over the more streamlined story that the manga originally gave us, though the manga DEFINITELY makes it more obvious with the moments it has.

Sailor Moon had Tuxedo Mask, buddy…if anything, the gays were Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. Not only were they a lesbian couple, but Uranus was also gender fluid. When the series was brought to America, Uranus and Neptune were portrayed as cousins and Uranus’ gender fluidity was explained away as “just a part of her superhero transformation sequence” as they spent their day-to-day life in suits and battled in a skirt. You gotta research these things, homie. My god.

If true, I miss these days when the characters could just live their lives without forcing it on others. We don't need to know the type of sex you have in your private time. None of my business. When you're around me, leave the sex part out please. Even cops are defacing their uniforms with rainbow tributes. This is problematic, because fake cops are out here kidnapping women at night. The last thing we need is cops running around in uniforms that's constantly changing.
