My wife has recently qualified after 4 years of hard work. She's done over 150 hours on placements free of charge with amazing feedback and lots of references, after of course paying for the course and supervision that's required to get to that stage. She's now cleared to work and like many other she trained with was hoping to jump on with an agency whilst slowly building her own base of clients. What nobody seems to tell people before starting theses courses is that the majority of agencys are not hiring people without accreditation, to get this they need 450 client hours and min of 3 years experience once qualified, the market is flooded with people who don't have this so can't work for agencies... The whole thing is a massive scam set up by companies charging clients for sessions whilst exploiting a never ending supply of free counsellors who need hours...and are forced to work for gratis.. Really poor show be very careful do your homework there no guarantee you will get work now matter how good you are.

I am currently coming to end of a level 3 counselling course at a college in the West Midlands Halesowen. The level of micro aggression. Attitude of certain lecturer just makes the environment toxic and difficult to learn. As a black student I would never recommend this course for any student of colour to attend.

I am so sorry and saddened to read about your experience. And I can see how you would not recommend the course to other people of colour. In my experience the microaggressions can be hard to deal with, let alone accept, in a course that requires you to unlearn your protective structure and more. But please don't give up.. keep going. Your tutor is only one person who needs education by the sounds of it. We need more people of colour in this profession.

I am surprised, or should I say, not surprised that there are no comments here. As a POC trainee counsellor, I can understand why . I am currently experiencing the insecurities of 'otherness' within my training group. I can understand why POC trainee counsellors may be reluctant to speak up. Race is a very deep-rooted phenomenon - unpacking it on both mainstream and minority cultures can be a daunting experience. It certainly is for me. But I encourage my fellow POC in this field to be brave to share as it can help encourage our white peers to unpack their own more on a wider scale and it can enhance our own healing and understanding self. Help us become better cousellors with our clients across all races. This is certainly feels like the case for me.

I am glad to come across this video. I’m currently studying level 3 counselling. I felt quite alone I. My experience of being the only black student on my course. It’s been very challenging. Having experienced racism living in mainly white area. The desire to be counsellor and be faced with this is topic I brought in level 2 and answer has always been refer the client on without tacking impact it will have on you. The trauma of racism on you personally and your identity. I feel I. The year 2023 as I currently studying I still find that counselling I’m on falls short to deal with this issue.

@CPCABvideos

Hello, it depends on which country you wish to practice in. In the UK there is no statutory requirement to obtain any qualifications to start practicing as a counsellor. However, it is widely recognised that obtaining Professional Membership Association accreditation is best practice. More information can be found on our website here: www.cpcab.co.uk/learners/going-into-practice

Now, im studying guidance and counselling at university (4 years) coz i want to be a teacher of GaC and want to be a counsellor in the future. after i finished my study, i will take a certificate qualification for counsellor with an estimated time of 6 months or 1 year. Is it possible to do level 4 without doing the previous qualifications ?
@CPCABvideos
@CPCABvideos Жыл бұрын
Hi, it is possible if you have obtained equivalent qualifications to our Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and our Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies. This would be assessed by the training centre you wish to study at, who would consider the existing qualifications you have completed.

What accreditation do you get after level 4? Will you be get HCPS registration? Will you get GBC with the BPS?
@CPCABvideos
@CPCABvideos Жыл бұрын
Hi, you wouldn't automatically get any accreditation on completion of the qualification alone as each accreditation body has its own entry requirements and application process. The qualification is recognised as appropriate to gain membership of many accreditation bodies though. There are more details on our website here: www.cpcab.co.uk/learners/going-into-practice

Does completing the counselling courses offered by CPCAB automatically qualify you to join BACP?
@CPCABvideos
@CPCABvideos Жыл бұрын
Hi, it depends on what you mean by joining BACP. If you were to successfully complete CPCAB's Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, to then become a BACP registered member you would need to pass BACP's Certificate of Proficiency: www.bacp.co.uk/membership/registered-membership/certificate-of-proficiency/. CPCAB offers a BACP Accredited version of the Level 4 Diploma which includes the Certificate of Proficiency as part of the qualification. Details can be found on our website here: www.cpcab.co.uk/qualifications/bacp-approved-tc-l4
