Very clever. One suggestion for others to save money is to look for someone selling on old coffee table cheap on Marketplace (I've seem them less than $40 sometimes). That way you could get tempered glass top. You need to look for one big enough to fit your aquarium under.

I got my fluval nano second hand, and it is missing two of the filter media. I put leca balls in mine but it was a hassle because they float. Now I have learned that leca balls are one of the worst performing medium along with other small-pored ceramics so I want to switch to all spunge, but I can't find a single place that sells the sponge for this filter. I heard plastic scrubbers were also decent, but I can't find a shop that sells those either.

I’ve made it before and depending on size of the tank, might take them a while to find it. 😊

This table is really well designed. Every piece is clearly labeled, kzbin.infoUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW and the instructions are perfectly displayed, so it's really hard to mess up the assembly. The hardware is likewise clearly labeled. If I had a power driver, assembly time would have been cut in half, but I didn't mind the light workout. My only qualm is that is that the lift top is wobbly in between its open and closed positions, but that's really a minor complaint. For the price, you really can't get much better than this, hence the five-star review. I use it primarily for my wireless mouse and keyboard so that I can use my PC from the couch. Storage is nice. I'm totally happy with this purchase.

So I have a nano fish tank set up with Guppies. But I want to add cherry shrimp. I know my ph is low but idk the parameters. I know I need Nitrate for the shrimp. How do I get Nitrates up without hurting the fish?

I know this video was made in 2014 and most of the info is correct for almost a decade ago. Instant ocean is a remineralizer. Using tap water is making the water incredibly hard because you are adding minerals to already mineral rich water. You can ONLY use RO, RODI, or Distilled water with ANY remineralizer. Your females are actually sexually mature. You can tell by the dark spot on their carapace. I use crushed coral as a substrate and mine love it. They make little homes in the coral. Fake plants arent really great for any salinity and you CAN use plenty of hardy freshwater plants in a brackish tank. Although plants are great for most species of shrimp by eliminating nitrates; I actually recommend no plants in an Opae Ula tank due to the nutrient absorption competition going on in your water chemistry. Opae Ula loveeeeeeee algae. Algae is most commonly cause by hyper nutrients. You will need a diffuser for your filter to prevent salt creep. Thank you for pointing out the Amazon eco-spheres. Ive reported it to Amazon several times for animal abuse. The three major threats to anchialine pool shrimp are habitat destruction and degradation; nonnative invasive species; and over collection for the aquarium trade. Please please please source responsibly, people.

Seems like a lot of aquarists who are used to cleaning filters have taken the matten filter, and altered it to fit their own sensibilities around aquarium keeping. A mattan filter was NOT meant to be a water polishing sponge filter. It is purely a biological filter that is not meant to be cleaned anymore than you should clean your gravel in an undergravel (ug) filter system. Its purpose is to mimic the sediment in the marginal zone of a water way similar to a deep substrate system with or without a ug unit. These small pore sized smooth filters are not HMFs even if they are marketed as such. If it's getting plugged up so that you have to take it out and clean it, even once a year, it's not an HMF.

I tried your method of setting up the filter underwater (ensuring all the bubbles came out) and unfortunately it's still somewhat "noisy". (It isn't extremely noisy, but I can still hear the filter running in the other room while I'm in my home office working all day. So you can understand why I'm looking to soften that rattle even more).
