I really like seeing the wide variety of machines you showcase! I’ve seen pictures & heard stories about the machines you start & test ride! It is such a treat!👍

I bought 2 of these for £5 in '70. Both non - runners, 1 jampot, 1 later ( '58). I put the later 1 back the road & sold it for £45. The most expensive part i had to buy was a front pipe, £2.10d from Wilf Green in Sheffield. The last time i checked it was SORNED in 2016. I was only 12 at the time & my brother used it for work for @ 3 months before i sold it. Happy memories.

This bike was famous for being in Burnett`s Portsmouth shop for many years. It was a kind of mascot and they would never sell it. Great to know it still exists and has been cared for .

If the gears 1 up 3 down it must have a reverse selector plate with that gear stick.

I have a similar model,, same colour, repatriated from spain, bought on holiday :-). T120V though, 1972. I paid £1600. Been laid on its side for 30 years in a dry shed. So I rebuilt the engine with new bearings and a rebore...possibly the best bike Ive ever had. They ride superbly and are so cool.

Sidecars are ok when your turning right. Hideous when turning left. Or maybe it was just my Jawa 350 I rode in the 80,s ?
@anythingoldmechanical13 күн бұрын
No they are all the same. Horrible!
@simonrobson584413 күн бұрын
@ I partly put it down to being a teenager and going flat out on whatever I rode but perhaps your right.

I borrowed a near-new Jawa 350 combination from a generous work colleague in the late 70’s or early 80s, when I was too skint to afford a vehicle of any description. I loved it. It pulled well, cruised at 50mph on the motorway (I rode it from Ilford to Fordingbridge and back) and handled really well. I could do the trick of getting the chair up in the air to about 45 degrees and keeping it there while riding along. This was the equivalent of riding a bicycle with hands off the handlebars. An early 1900s edition of Brown Brothers Cycle Accessories Catalogue summed it up perfectly: “Riding hands off is nothing but cheap swank. Any fool can do it, and only fools do”. I owned combinations as well as solos during the 1960s, and I remember well how safe and stable they were on roads covered in compacted snow, when my pals on solos were riding very slowly and very carefully, except for one idiot who decided to ride at speed. We picked him and his bike up after the inevitable, and he immediately proceeded to do the same again. This time we left him to sort himself out.

I had one of those about 1980 or so almost as nice. Thing would happliy run down the hiway 60mph plus. As I recall I payed $200-250 for it.Those little motors liked to rev !
@thakery572015 күн бұрын
I had a similar road BSA in the late seventies, a Starfire that was so perky it tempted you to use it's power to keep up with mate's 650's and then it'd go 'supernova' and need work. We used to joke that it looked just like the pictures in the workshop manual.... you know, the 'exploded diagrams'.... But it was a funbike for a youngster. There were always loads of parts available but not the parts you needed as they were the bits that failed..... happy days going around London's bike shops on the tube and buses in search of whatever you needed.... all those bike shops are long gone now !
