A very pretty theme tune wasted on a poor show. If Eldorado had stuck to the original premise that its creator Tony Holland set out, then this theme tune would have been just as iconic as other TV shows that have been on for years such as EastEnders, Strictly Come Dancing and Doctor Who theme songs are today.

I remember the Panasonic D1/D3 cassette format, it wasn't very well loved at the BBC. Especially by the people who had used the more reliable analogue systems like Sony C-type and of course Ampex 2"Quad tapes.

This was made a decade too late. Spanish holidays became very popular in the 1980s, had this programme been in 1982 rather than 1992 it would have been popular with those who had been or were planning to go on holiday in Spain. Another problem was they assumed having an Eastenders co creator that it would be as successful as Eastenders.

BBC One could do reruns of the series during the day. Put it on after Doctors. And they could also put classic episodes of Neighbours on afterwards. The daytime schedule's viewing figures would go through the roof. The BBC try too hard to appeal to younger viewers when their actual viewers are most likely from the golden age of 60s 70s 80s 90s.

Launched and cancelled in equally dramatic fashion. Wasn’t it something like #3 in the ratings when they canned it? Seemed like a ridiculous decision.

I've often wondered how they made these titles. It's clearly not a video of the actual sea, but it doesn't look like CGI either. Perhaps shot in a tank of some sort?

This show was great! They should bring it back with a revived brookside airing alongside it. However yes Albion market was trash and a major embarrassment to itv at the time it was said that when coronation street is celebrating its 50th birthday Albion market would Be celebrating its 25th and it lasted only a year 😅

if it wasn't rushed it would of work ed problem was it got good towards end of December 92 view ing figures going up and they axe it was getting more vewiers then Emmerdale when it was axed

The premise of the show was quite intriguing but the characters were too ordinary for this setting. If we wanted to see everyday people, we'd watch EastEnders. Eldorado called for something a bit more aspirational and glamorous and that's where it missed the mark.

Totally. This was just getting into good storylines and was cut. Could have gone onto better things after a bad start. Should have been given a chance.

One of the most perfect theme tunes Simon May ever wrote. Beautiful orchestration too. I also remember the Panasonic D3 machines, and the big old Sony D1's. You had to line the machine up for each tape if I remember rightly. Many Soho Post Houses crammed them in. I wonder how the title sequence was created. Assume it must have been on a quantel. vidisell Also to quickly note from reading other comments on here. The upload here is certainly an oversea's copy. This isn't a master titles tape. The extended music over the background at the end would have been part of a "clean elements" section laid onto the end of the tape after the programme had finished. This was done so that any foreign broadcasters who need to change text elements for translation purposes have clean backgrounds to work with and generate their own versions.

the best tune i have ever heard,love it,brilliant simon may, this programme was soooo good the best soap i have ever seen(marcus,pilar and few others were superb) but sadly some of the others were not up to scratch i guess this is why it was axed great shame

Yes, was a good show as time went on. Should have developed it more. Bad boys Marcus and Alex, and Pilar with the relationship, good drama. Miss it very much.

Also it is interesting that the © and date is burnt in to the titles, which probably explained why it took over 6 months to realise that we had move to 1993. Anyway many thanks again, fantastic stuff.

You are so right indeed-the closing end credits in Roman numerals of course-show the date as 1992, not 1993. Perhaps the BBC at the time decided that as Eldorado was going to end, they would not update the year date I wonder? Thank you anyway!!

Excellent upload many thanks, two interesting points of note - The first being that the vt clock at the front says episode 158 when there were only 156 episodes which is a bit of a mystery unless a couple of episodes were edited together earlier on. Later on the BBC sold the show overseas in blocks of 13 so the VT clock could have read Series 7 Episode 5 and so forth.

There were 156 episodes, but 31+32 were combined, and 126 was omitted in the sequence, so the last tech ep is 158.

The credits are pretty. It wasn't the theme tune or the credits that were the problem. The opening and closing were the highlights of the show
