I’ve watched several of your videos tonight. Very helpful. Followed you on IG and went to IMDB and see that you have booked a few things since you made some of these videos! Not surprised and good for you!

Also… you just use one light… not lighting from both sides with a ‘hair light’? Just the way my face shape is it’s quite different left and right profiles and shadows on my gace can accentuate that so I don’t know would one light just work for me

What do you use to hold up your backdrop?

I love videos like this that give an explanation and how to recognize/go about it and most of all an EXAMPLE to see it in action! I’d really appreciate it if you did one like this on listening to your partner

I know I'm late to the party here, but I wanted to note that the text comments you added to the clip from The Crown actually detracted from my trying to absorb your points about subtext. The notes about topics like shooting angles may be interesting, but they're not related to the acting choices.

If casting directors want us to tape in our own homes edit the tape and find a reader I’m sorry they should be happy with me recording on my brick Sony Ericsson from 2006. We do half of their job now. They will see and hear me. Period.

I didn’t understand the point about the prop ie the important document. Are you saying ace the prop completely or make it more naturalistic? 😊

I have a audition playing a mysterious mother with piercing yet soulful eyes. It takes place outside in the meadows, what type of lighting should I do? Drama? (The movie is a mysterious thriller. Thank you for the tips!

Getting a better understanding of the techical aspects of a self-tape (camera axis, eyeline, and out of frame action) was really helpful to know.

Hi - great info- could you suggest an affordable easy-to-use Camera NOT iPhone? I do not like using my phone. I want a simple camera for under $300. any ideas? THX!

Seems like everyone asks for a full body shot. Do you do that with your pop up just sitting in the background, or do you remove it or shoot he full body shot in a different area?
@dantracyoriginals2 жыл бұрын
I usually just put my phone in vertical mode, the way we see on social media so we can see head to below the knees. This shows the sides of the backdrop sometimes, but that doesn't bother me - it's all just part of the magic.

Are you using the moment app along with the lens, and are you shooting in 4K?
@juzs68932 жыл бұрын
Cool video! Does anyone know if there is a way to do what the app called coldRead does, but instead of it being a phone app, having it on your mac, so that you can shoot with your phone? Thanks!

Wonderful setup Dan! I was just wondering how you control the audio on your microphone without it clipping or something.
@dantracyoriginals2 жыл бұрын
Good question. In this set up I'm either using a microphone plugged into my camera or my phone. Our phones are pretty good at adjusting on the fly to avoid clipping, but if I'm using the mic plugged into my camera then I have to do a rehearsal where I test my loudest volume, and make sure I set the gain correctly.

What is the paper that you put over the square light?
@dantracyoriginals2 жыл бұрын
Of course! I use a small piece of 250 Diffusion paper. Its common on film sets and works great as an extra piece softener.

Thank you for the useful info! If we're working with just a ring light (NOOOO!), any tips for making it softer? Would putting paper over the light or a t-shirt help?
@dantracyoriginals2 жыл бұрын
Hi Audrey! A tshirt or pillow case would be perfect to start. You could also look for something called 250 Diffusion paper and that might help too. (that's what I put over my light panels)
