The runner is out for not sliding?
@morbizzle124 ай бұрын
This was back in 2013 before these extra rules got put into play... But damn it's still messed up seeing it years later. That runner clearly had intention to take him out, he had intention of going for the plate.. if he dives head first to slide and touch the plate. He's safe and no pain is caused. Carelessness by that player on all accounts, egregious aggression.

Let me tell you a story when I was a senior in high school I played catcher for the varsity baseball team and I was very good I gunned people down at second and third base mostly one day during finals I was back behind the plate after returning from a knee injury It was the top of the 9th inning and there were 2 outs left to win the game we were up by 1 it was 12-11 there was a man on second the next batter hit the ball into center field and the ball was caught then thrown to home after a cutoff into second and I caught it but as the ball came to me the runner was running full speed and he collided with me so hard he got up and taunted my teammates I, however, went unconscious and the game was stopped because I was unresponsive the EMT was called as my teammates and coaching staff were trying to help me they even poured water on my face when they came I was put on a stretcher with a neck brace and I didn't wake up for a few hours when I woke up in the hospital some of my teammates were there and so was my coach they told me the teams got into a brawl bc it was ruled that the collision was intentional and most of the rival team was ejected it caused a lot of drama I returned to school the following week and I was greeted with hugs bc the students were worried about me I ended up getting a concussion after that hit my helmet was cracked and my facemask was busted I'm glad to be alive to share this story

How do you allow your teammate to get destroyed like that, and do NOTHING???
@andromedahearme637 ай бұрын
Fair game. Catcher was clearly blocking the plate. You can see his left foot on the left side and his right foot on the right side, with his body over the plate. If you have the ball tag him, if you don't, it's dirty ball to straddle a plate hoping the other team will be nice enough to afford you the extra time. It was brutal to watch, I hope he's well.

There was plenty of the plate showing. All he had to do was slide head first or feet first and he would’ve been safe. What the catcher did was not blocking the plate.

As a former minor leaguer, that’s a great camera angle to understand MLB hitting. He’s slightly behind this but keeps the barrel in letting that 100mph fastball do the work for him. It’s also knowing that Strasburg isn’t likely to go offspeed AGAIN, so look fastball. This shows how hitters truly look when they get off balance and fight through an at bat then hammer the mistake. Love it.

Technically it's not considered blocking the plate unless the catcher's whole body is in front of the plate that was only a foot, and the runner should slide in this situation he should've started his slide early while the catcher was still receiving the ball and he would be safe otherwise the call should be out for interference and unnecessary rouchness

Same hit on me when I was playing in Hawaii. I caught the next pitch and then passed out into the umpire. I had a concussion for two weeks and still had a cloudy head for two more weeks. This was in 1981. The Army did not know what to do with concussions back then.

He blocked the plate once he had the ball when receiving the ball all he had was his foot which at that point is not catchers interference to the runner. The runner should slide. Call should be runner out for unnecessary roughness he really could've slides before catcher got the ball
