Appelgren almost Always beat Waldner usually. Appelgren has much more wins than losses against Waldner.

Appelgren got his revansch very quickly against Waldner as he best Waldner in the semi final of the European Championship in 1990. Appelgren win his 3 rd European title in 1990 and was seen as the greatest Swedish table tennis player of all times up untill 1997. Appelgren has far more Victories than losses against Waldner. Appelgren always defeated Waldner pretty easy. He had the mental adventshelg over Waldner and the style of playing to beat Wallner easily most of the times.

one of the most painful losses of waldi. He was so nervous at the deciding moments. A deserved win of the fighter gatien.

In fact it is just outdated style and need to do use bkack rubber complement only, but it just not much use.

hzw is a great blocker player but unfortunately hzw's position rarely moves, jow is maestro player and knows that, with good topspin both right and left (backhand) hzw often goes dead

Pulling a good serve is difficult. As stated somewhere here Waldner admitted to have been very nervous in this game so maybe his serves were weaker than usual.

Remarkable fact that Waldner when in singles final won nine out of ten attempts. The only player to beat him in a final was Peter Karlsson in 1994.

It's funny comparing this short clip with today's game style. The announcers were so amazed at the power. But as compared to today's Fan Zendong, Xu Xin and Ma Long, that's like only half their power. I know it's a different game now. It's just interesting to see how far the game has come.

Different eras. His performance in objective tests like VO2max was a freakish. His scores were elite alpine skiers level. He also squatted over 100kgs. Neither Ma Long nor Fan Zendong have more power than Waldner. They just stick to the table and use super fast blades.Fan Zhedong's squatting style wouldn't work in the 38mm era.It becomes apparent when you see how much he struggles against slow shots or shots with short trajectories.
