I'm not sure about the consumer side of things. Search started deteriorating rapidly after BERT started hijacking the query box, ignoring the verbatim query in favor of what Google wants you to search. "Google is bad now" seems to be a pretty universal sentiment at this point, but Google getting progressively worse is written off as part of a broader trend of "enshittification" of online services. What I'm mostly worried about now is the (seemingly unchecked) incestuous nature of AI. AI generated articles being fed to AI, which then get prompted by another AI to generate more AI generated content, which eventually gets fed back into the machine. I don't think Google introducing SGE as yet another layer of abstraction between the source and the reader is likely to help this. This might be my tech-induced cynicism talking, but I don't think this is going to improve search much for anyone except Google.

my AI content written using surgegraph made it to AI overviews lol but I can tell you it's been humanized and traffic from other countries has been fine too. not sure what to make of AI overviews.

With Google's (very recent) news about incorporating advertising into AIO results, we need to ask if the purpose of the AI answers is really about optimising for a better user experience, or instead is it about opening up new opportunities for advertisers?

I was invested in this video until you threw agencies under the bus to promote yours. I am on the client side and even I understand that agencies can't share every single update as soon as Google announces it. Infact they shouldn't especially since it's so new.
