min 5:59_ "According to the stories"? I don't see the need for Fossen to be sarcastic about Nancy and the College. It's not like she ever said she has a PhD or anything. She has only said that she was there for approximately a year and a half. Also, why would anyone "watch her in college", how stupid is that? She was NOT part of the band, she is FOUR years younger than Ann, and in 1971 (17 y/o) she was still in school. She graduated in 1972!!! (there is a post with pic on her IG). Also, who does he ask? To the interviewer? To Derosier, who joined Heart even after her? Fossen himself has said that he did not have time to develop a friendship with Nancy during her time on Heart, because "when Nancy became on board she was kind of in her, into her" (there are many testimonies about how shy and "into her" Nancy was as a child), and then she and Roger started dating. So when would Nance give him a tour of the campus? Even Roger has said that Nancy had excellent grades, both in school and college. And since he became her boyfriend of four years, I suppose he may have seen some report cards. But why would she have to prove something to anyone else? Just poison!!!

I got half-way through this podcast. A few thoughts: Everything you said about EVH was exactly what players thought when they heard Hendrix. If you're a younger person (under 40), you've grown up with this stuff so you wouldn't understand a world without it, or before it. VH took a lot from Jimi. Just listen to any of his solo spots in VH concerts. All the crazy whammy bar work. Where'd that come from? Chuck Berry was like the Hendrix/EVH of the 1950s. He synthesized so much of what everyone does today. The "smear" licks and shuffle rhythms. He didn't necessarily invent that stuff, but he popularized it, whether you know it or not. To include or exclude guitarists due to their politics or something they said is silly. It's weak and feminine. Grow a set. I didn't realize that there's only one way to see everything. My mistake. If you think Jimmy Page was sloppy, you really haven't listened to his best stuff. The guys worked in studios for years. There aren't any successful "sloppy" studio players. Listen to any live Led Zep in their prime - '72 to '73. It's some of the best improvisational rock guitar ever recorded. They were so influential; they drove many other bands to come up with their own "Stairway..." Kashmir has been ripped off by so many bands, as has the Zep formula. The Rolling Stone list was a huge joke. This diversity and inclusivity stuff is a joke. Why was Joan Jett even on the list? It should be about the music, nothing else.

Great points on the songwriting/Tin Pan Alley comparisons. In the 1930s and 40s, songs were often written by duos or a sole writer. The signature hooks of the songs were generally the lyrics and chord changes. Johnny Mercer might write something and a dozen artists of the time would cover it. But the key difference between that type of writing and rock writing, is that in rock, sometimes just a drum part can be the "hook" - like the snare part in "Fifty Ways to Leave your Lover" by Paul Simon. You can argue the percentages, but it would've been fair to give some percentage to each band member if they contributed something meaningful to the finished product. I LOVE Steve's bass part in the middle of "Heartless" - that is a hook if I've ever heard one. Just on that alone, he should have a credit IMO. I love Mike's drumming on "White Lightning and Wine" - he really cuts through with that part and it's one of the highlights of the song, especially the live versions they did in 1976 and '77.

Wonderful documentary, great to see sequences that have never been shown before. Something I have wondered about for a long time and which is also addressed in this documentary is that it is claimed that Wham toured in Europe?. Wherever I search online I can't find this information anywhere..... On the other hand they participated in TV shows in other countries, but no real concerts except UK, Ireland, Japan, Australia, United States, Hong Kong and China. I was and am a big fan from Sweden and of course had hoped that they had toured in Scandinavia. Luckily, I was able to see all of George Michael's all concerts in my own country, but I have always wondered about this specific question, anyone?

I luv this review of Erics' songs as a songwriter. I'm not so sure about Eric not being appreciated as a songwriter by Paul & Gene as his songwriting speaks for itself. I think there was a possibility that Paul & Gene after the issues surrounding Peters attitude & then Vinnies attitude that they found themselves doubting their trust in others within the inner circle of KISS (I would place Bill Aucoin in there as well). Eric was solid & I consider his playing, his songwriting & humble nature as being very highly rated in my own opinion. Sorely missed & very highly regarded. Thanks for the mighty regards you have within the review for our Eric Carr.

I always thought that Brian went into a deep depression after the Beatles stopped touring as he'd lost much of his sense of purpose, he was no longer important to them. His story is sad. Since they were not touring at this stage either, George Martin was more important to them as he was their father figure in the studio than Brian Epstein ever was. So I don't know if Brian being gone was the real problem.

YOKO ONO did nothing BUT, by just staying there while they were discussing private stuff was annoying and "paranoia triggering", John used Yoko to get into McCartney´s nerves during the white album, he knew McCartney was getting to much "favors" from George Martin and was acting too "bossy", after all McCarney just made Hey Jude, also Lennon still carried the blame of the JESUS thing and he just divorced his wife, you got to remember that a "divorce" in the 60s was a major social sin, so Lennon was really on the edge and he used YOKO, which loved the "lets annoy Paul" game, so Yes Yoko said nothing but she never left, she was always there just to be the biggest pain in the ass for McCartney, and man Paul was on the limit of the mental breakdown all the time !!
@johnnada68553 жыл бұрын
On the RINGO "not helping" aspect, well you got to remember that RINGO was a professional drummer that was almost just "hired to play" at the last minute, and that was the attitude he pretty much had, Ringo said that he really got to be friends with the Beatles later, during the Beatlemania era, because they shared so much together, but for real., Pete Best shared more private stuff with the Beatles in hamburg than Ringo when he joined the band, also you got to remember that RINGO left the band 6 months before when they were doing the white album which was the failed prequel to let it be, they were suppose to do the TV Documentary while they were making the white album but the recording got too horrible that they cancelled the project and promised to make new songs exclusively for the project, John had some issues with George Martin for example and the problems with "Bossy" McCartney and the egos started already in the white album

On the "Get Back" birth., i think it is clear that "Jefferson Airplane" influenced that song, i mean John even talks in one part that he was watching them and Paul even sings like the singer, also the early versions of "Two of Us" were also like that, that jumpy country rock style, lets not forget that the white album was an answer to Dylan´s bootleg "Basement Tapes" and George was in america with Dylan and the Band, i mean John was trying hard to do stuff like Dylan and the Band, so that "country jumpy" rythm was obviously what he was doing with "Two of Us" and he kept playing with that till get back started to get shape

As a drummer myself, I couldnt agree more about Eric Carr "my second fave behind Randy Castillo". Now in defense of Paul Stanley, im sure alot of him blaming Eric & Vinnies new make up designs for the bands nosedive in popularity, is because he saw what those original designs accomplished in the 1st place, let alone what those designs did in 1996 when they were brought back.

I agree with you. I am a drummer myself and grew up with Peter and saw Eric’s first show thinking I would miss Peter and Eric won me over in the first few songs . I then became a huge Eric Carr fan and he was well received. Kiss themself at the time would say how Eric gave them the kick in the ass they needed. But now they have to say the makeup at the time was there down fall to justify singer and Thayer wearing the ace and Peter makeup. I also believe they lost there popularity with the new 8 year old kiss fans they brought in with dynasty and the older hard rock fans ..side note , I also met Eric Carr and hung out with him all night and he was the nicest guy in the world . I also got a autograph and sadly got destroyed but luckily I was in a band at the time and featured in a magazine with Eric so I have pictures of us together and the great memories always

Your point of view is clear and honest Alan. The KISS A. and E. special was literally a 'fresh coat of paint' on the Kisstory we already knew. Agreed, the Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent contributions to the lasting KISS musical foundation were criminally missing in the documentary. Yet, let's be honest...we all knew it was going to be that way. I would have preferred Gene and Paul to extend an olive branch to Ace and Peter, and allow them to narrate their (Ace and Peter's) POV in their own words, at least until 1982.
@clutch28273 жыл бұрын
We're probably around the same age. I remember seeing Eric for the first time and going wtf? I had really lost touch with KISS at that point and was more into Ted Nugent. Lol! Later, I started getting back into them and remember ordering a bootleg videocassette of their Japan show that had the Tom Snyder interview at the end. I also ordered that same jersey! I still have it but it is too small to wear now. Lol!

I don't like how Paul blamed KISS's early 80's decline on "new characters" the fans weren't accepting of. That is such Bull Crap, Eric was accepted right away with people already wearing his make up during the Unmasked tour. Even Vinnie was accepted, nobody knew about his behind the scenes antics at that point, so the fans just accepted his ability on stage.
