Not to be confused with the Raritan River Railroad, a short line that ran from New Brunswick to South Amboy, New Jersey.

October 14, 2024 it was a Monday not sure if this is a early morning rush peak hour or a afternoon rush hour peak, that was a Port Jervis Express, I have taken that train from Hoboken up to Middletown NY when visiting relatives up there it so beauitful the train sight seeing, People just a friendly reminder that starting in Jan 31, 2025 the Hoboken Station would be close for a month!
@thekamfanner
@thekamfanner Ай бұрын
@@wwedivas2011 this was afternoon/evening rush hour. The line does indeed get very scenic past Suffern, and yeah, I have to commute into Hoboken via path so that closure is very significant.

NJ Transit is awful: The cars are old and dirty. (The video does not show passengers getting on and off the train.) There's no platform, so passengers must use stairs on the cars. Milburn Station is more interesting: It dates from 1837 and was originally part of the the Morris and Essex Railroad. This railroad ran across northern New Jersey and was later part of the main line of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad.

This was an extremely complex project. A dual level tunnel had to floated up from Maryland and sunk below the river bed under both sides of east river. The LIRR is below the F subway line and very deep tunnels had to be bored on both sides to reach the new Grand Central Madison station and the existing LIRR 6 track line in Queens along with a large yard to store trains for peak hours. in addition miles and miles of fiber optic and power cables had to be installed to keep up with the state of the art signal technology that was developed during the period of construction that started in 1970.

I was wondering, how the conductor knows which door should be opened since the platforms are short? How do they know prior the arrival?
@thekamfanner
@thekamfanner 5 ай бұрын
@@Malo-TheFlyingFrenchman if I had to guess, either there’s a standard for how many cars make the platform (ex: 7 cars make the platform so always open just 7) or the engineer lets them know prior. The former seems more likely than the latter.
