Thanks for this tutorial. I adapted it for teaching two very different classes yesterday, a 2nd grade and a combined 7/8 grade and this craft was a huge success with both groups! I've subscribed to your channel.

3:57 It is called an overhand knot. Interestingly, a pretzel knot is a name for a different knot.

Wouldn't it be easier to number the notches, so that kids lean faster which string goes ahere and in what order? THX
@ursinaamsler1334
@ursinaamsler1334 Жыл бұрын
Try it! The strings are always moving and sometimes you need to reposition or adjust so fixed numbers won't work.

Anything you want, as long as the notches can accommodate the gauge of vord you're using, and the center hole is large enough for the braid to pass through

Very clearly taught. Makes me want to try. What is the best material to use … yarn? cording? something else?
@user-lu2tb9nc3x
@user-lu2tb9nc3x 20 күн бұрын
Anything you want. If you have arthritis like some of us do, maybe a larger gauge cording would be easier to start with. Think about what you might use the cording for, and create with that in mind.

Maybe I missed it but what were the other notches for if you're only using 8 notches
@ursinaamsler1334
@ursinaamsler1334 Жыл бұрын
You always need extra notches: when you move a string, you need a place to put it. I consider them "place holders". We always make our disks in class with 16 notches, but having more or less still works!

Hey! I had some free time today and wanted to fill it by making a bracelet, couldn't decide on what type and then I remembered Kumihimo from middle school art. I put it in the search bar on youtube and to my surprise I came across this video. 8 years ago you taught my middle school class to do this in our free time, it is still super fun and addicting. glad I came across this.

You might show how to end while working on your Kumihimo by bringing down just the first right hand cord leaving three at the bottom and one at the top. When you pick it up again. You will see that now you move the left cord up to the left and resume.
