One step that he forgot to mention : dk/ds = -d/ds(s^3+4s^2+11s/s+9) = 0 : This yields - 2s^3+31s^2+72s+99 = 0; and the solutions are : {-13.028; -1.236+1.5073j; -1.236-1.5073j}. This can then be verified to obtain the breaking points. I suppose that the former is invalid and the later 2 are valid breaking points for the 2 complex poles above and below the real axis respectively.
