I apologize if you covered this verse in another episode, but how do you understand John 4:10? Is "ask" merely a synonym for faith in that verse? Or, is this an appeal to unbelievers to pray to God to reveal the truth of the gospel to them?

The gospel that is taught by many people today has been reduced down to just "faith alone". This false gospel of "faith alone" has made following the commandments of Christ null and void. Obeying His commandments have been eliminated from the gospel and have been made subsequent and optional to salvation. Walking in the Spirit has been made optional as well. This false gospel of "faith alone" changes what Jesus said in Matthew 7:14 - For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. By teaching that we do NOT need to keep the commandments(plural) of Christ as the gospel, the saving power of the gospel has been neutralized. The end result is that millions of people have been deceived by the devil into thinking that they are saved. They were taught that "faith alone" saved them apart from them having to keep the commandments of Christ. This has become the devil's masterpiece and has deceived millions of people into thinking they have eternal life in Christ when they actually remain lost.

This is such a very helpful service that applies so broadly to our Christian lives. I'm so grateful to the Lord for using Pastor John and all those involved in the presentation of this series. God bless you all.

This is so helpful. I'm listening again after hearing this for the first time a couple of years ago. Heartfelt thanks to GCF and Pastor John for making this available. I'm part of a fairly legalistic Baptist church and it's easy to get caught up in performance. I'm sharing this with others who need this as well. Many of these.. works-righteousness obedience works trusters, who THINK that repent means to TURN FROM SINS. Error on two majors... 1. They refuse, ignore or are ignorant of... that it is the sacrificial shed BLOOD atonement alone of Jesus Christ, is what cleanses us from ALL sin. 2. They redefine Repentance, as turning away from sin. As if that could justify us in the sight of God. It is IMPOSSIBLE to turn away from ALL sin. Even if we could, that is not what justifies a individual for salvation. The BLOOD of Jesus Christ alone! was the sacrificial atoning payment that was shed for all sin. The BLOOD is so ignored and counted as a small thing. When in fact, It is the ONLY THING that atones for all sin. The blood of bulls and goats couldn't completely atone for sin. We are justified by grace alone through faith alone in the FINISHED work on Calvary's cross. Only there is where no boasting can be made. Which salvation cannot be boasted about (Ephesians 2:8-9. Titus 3:5-7. Romans 3:19-28 for context).

Just because we can't keep the commandments Laws perfectly, doesn't mean we shouldn't try, this is why we have forgiveness of our sins by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. And James is simply saying that we can't pick and choose which of God's commandments we want to keep, we have to keep them all.

I feel like the comment of why someone is going to hell at 14 1/2 minutes is innacurate. First, why would one be responsible for rejecting an offer for salvation if they were not in need? (Obviously I am not arguing that there are sinless/perfect people, this is a logical argument.) Angels are not condemned for rejecting salvation through Christ because it was never made to them. The same could be said if a perfectly righteous person existed. This offer of salvation was not made to them, but to the unrighteous, the sinner. Responsibility/Judgment for rejecting the Gospel of salvation presupposes sin and condemnation to justify a need for salvation. Second, If "The only thing that is going to send somebody to hell is rejection of God's solution for their sin penalty found in the person of Jesus Christ and what he did for you by dying for your sins and rising again.", how do we explain the condemnation of billions throughout the ages who either now or previously never had access to the Bible? I think this statement is too specific. Romans 1-3 would argue that the rejection of general revelation about God and His character through creation is sufficient to make someone "without excuse", i.e. condemned, as would violating their own judgment standards. But unless we are to presuppose some miraculous special revelation about substitutionary atonement to every idividual throughout the ages, I don't see how the statement can be true. I don't think he is saying they have to have rejected the death burial and resurrection of Christ before it happened. But even the concept of atonement requires special revelation outside of Creation. Although it seems to just be a nuance, I think his statement should say, "The main thing that is going to keep somebody out of heaven is if they do not accept God's solution for their sin penalty..." This emphasizes the possibility for anyone who responds positively to any revelation of God to be brought along by various means to a clear understanding of the Gospel and chance to accept it. It also allows for folks who reject general revelation about God so as to not even receive special revelation about atonement that they reject. And it acknowledges the foundational issue that brings about the need for salvation through the Gospel, sin. Sin (whether Adam's or personal depending on your theological persuasion) is what set you on the path to hell. Faith in Christ is what removes you from that path and puts you on the permanant path to heaven/eternity with Christ. My wife and I love listening to this series and are big fans. We live where good solid Bible teaching in English is not available and truly value and enjoy this teaching. The only reason I'm writing about this now is because it has come up in a couple of videos and we always wind up pausing and having a long conversation about John's wording here...John the preacher not the Apostle. ;)

Amen and amen. Absolutely right we must exactly follow according to the word of God. Awesome declaration brother may God bless you always and continue preaching for His name sake and especially for young generation and vaunrable people to hear exactly about the meaning of scriptures. God loves us and His love never change and is greater and our lives.

I made a comment on your Part 1 as well, but having been raised in church, where I believed as a child, where later doubt arose after hearing such things as "you must publicly confess" or ABC (Admit You're a Sinner, Believe in the Son, Confess Him Lord) and the pastor having everyone in the church pray the sinners prayer corporately every Sunday...Romans 10:9,10 is their proof text for confessing with your mouth and hence the sinners prayer. God brought me out of this confusion when I realized and was pursuaded that He was sent of God, to pay for my sin condition (not actions), was the High Priest, the Sacrifice, who rose from the dead having paid it once and for all and sits at the right hand of God...the High Priest could never sit in the Holy of Holies. Once I was convinced of this, I never doubted again....or said a sinners prayer.

I think Romans 10:9,10 is what they all use as justification...Confessing with the mouth....believing in the heart. They use this as the magic formula to be saved not knowing this is a quote from the book of Joel. This is where the confusion began in my opinion.

Yankee rejects repenting of sin which is the only way sins are forgiven according to Jesus. Luke 24:44-47 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, And REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS will be preached in His name to ALL NATIONS Starting in Jerusalem.

If all are being rewarded and I lose reward, it is punitive. What is so hard about understanding this??? Did Jesus come to only lighten our sentences from death to less jewelry? Is that what He did?

Nowhere it says loss of reward. Suffer loss is not about reward. I can’t believe how the entire Christian church has become work oriented just like the pharisees. We didn’t learn anything?

If we confess our sins he will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
