On the off chance this enhances viewer enjoyment, I will comment as one of the defenders (in red & runnning the town.) Note: With the benefits of hindsight!!! As an attacker I would focus totally on forcing the ford (to the right of the town per the defenders perspective) instead of attacking via BOTH!? the bridge and the ford. Benefits: 1. Attacking the ford (and moving towards the ford) would have given no targets to the 2 other huge defender siege guns in the center and left. 2. The attacker's 4 pd artillery would focus on forcing the ford, and "suppressing/engaging" only that single 24pd siege gun on the right side of the town (vs all 3). This would tend to draw the counter battery fire of that single defender siege gun against the engaging attacking artillery. (Meanwhile) The remaining attacking artillery (and inf/cav) help force the ford, or the attacker arty optionally gang up on the single single defending 24 pd cannon (on the right side of the town) if no better opposing (infantry?) targets are available. 3. Once the ford has been secured a move on the town from a more advantageous direction (ie not the bridge !) may be practical.

If only Arneson and Gygax had remained friends, and didn't go their own ways. I wonder what D&D would be like today, if that happened.

I love that Wesley thought Braunstein was a flop, and the players loved it. As a GM, I've had this happen a time or two. One of the best parts of RPGs is that each player is, in some way, responsible for their own fun. That said, the interactions are the spice of it all.

It is heartwarming to see how Arneson assembled his group. Almost all of my lifelong friends come from assembling game groups over the years. If you pause to consider how, without the assembly shown here, I might not have made my own, you can see how much I (and many of us) owe to these simple events.

I played in the 1980s. All we had were character sheets, pencils and graph paper to draw maps. I didn't even know players used figures until the last two years. Dungeons and Dragons is my most favourite game. It has had a huge impact on my life. Thank you for sharing its history.

Nicely done video. I own a copy of Arneson's The First Fantasy Campaign the I put in a large ziplock bag. And back in the mid-1980's I had a few questions and corresponded with him via emails; he was polite and intelligent in his responses. I regret that I never got to meet him in person.

Everyone I have met who had conversations with him has said he was very friendly and nice. It is sad that he passed away when he did as he was only about 61 years old which is still very young. Did you keep copies of your correspondence? - Griff

This is beautiful, guys. You read a little about this creative process that led to the emergence of RPGs here and there, but it just seems like words on the screen describing things that happened so long ago. You really managed to humanized what was happening during those days. Also, thank you for the opportunity to have a sneak peek at Strategos-N. Are there any plans to have Wesely's rules published in their entirety one day?
