For anyone wondering: The song is about the 7th Panzer (armored) division, aptly named the "Ghost Division" during it's invasion of France under the command of Erwin Rommel, later known as the "Desert Fox". They earned the title for disappearing and reappearing along the battle lines like a ghost, with neither German nor French command able to keep up with them. There was genuinely no telling where they would pop up and when you think about it, that is the most effective kind of psychological warfare. When an ENTIRE ARMORED UNIT can just up and disappear in a (metaphorical) cloud of smoke and suddenly reappear to strike at your position, you'll likely never feel safe. There is no telling when one of the most decorated military armored units of the war thus-far will just suddenly show up and obliterate your position. Imagine that, most of France's equipment and materials (especially it's tanks) were still essentially WW1

While some ate, others washed; They were surprised outside their anti-tank and artillery to be literally run over, the survivors discover that their officers are among the casualties; Desperate, they try to take their positions in the artillery and aim, but they do not find any vehicles. Once the line is broken, they retreat, while informing the French high command that they were attacked by "spectres" and "demons" (Le Parisien 1962).
