I'm all for truth in advertising. There's a reality show called "Survivor." If it were truly reality, then everyone but the winner would die. Actually, then, I'd probably watch it.

And speaking of social media, have you ever noticed how people only post their highlight reels? It's like everyone's life is a perfect Instagram filter. Meanwhile, I'm over here " celebrating a 5th, mighty takeaway order for the week."

You know what's ironic? We live in a world where we're more connected than ever, but at the same time "solitude has never looked so perfect." We have all these social media apps designed to make us feel more connected but they end up making us feel " like human beings are quite boring when it comes down to it".

Have you ever noticed how ridiculous it is that we're supposed to have our lives figured by the time we're 25? I mean I still can't even fold a fitted sheet properly and yet, I'm supposed to know what I want to do with the rest of my life. "It's like trying to get your grandparents to stop looking at their wrist when explaining what Tic-Toc is".

Gary. Thanks for your videos. I enjoy that you dive deep into the information and tips beyond the usual generic bits of information. I've learned so much and have thought more deeply about my jokes, my sets, etc, because of your videos. Just the point about creating a message and a flow of your set was an amazing revelation. I've been doing my first group of Open Mics and I've realized that getting laughs at Open Mics (with other comedians in the audience) is much tougher than I anticipated. Sometimes I hear them talking out loud to 'guess' my punchline. A bit unnerving, but I need to stay at it and hone my comedy voice and POV - and these Open Mics are a great way to do it.

Hi Gary! I appreciate the vid, really helpful. I was really surprised to randomly come across this vid as you used to host an open mic night at a bar on Brick Lane i performed at a few times. Kinda lapsed since the pandemic and now hoping to get back into performing. Cheers!

Have you ever been on a plane that hits turbulence? It’s like being on a rollercoaster that’s also on fire. And don’t get me started on airplane food-It tastes like they cooked the food in the same oil that they used in the engine. Then, they cook it so hard and so long until it no longer has any flavor or moisture left in it. The chicken is black and as tough as leather, and the carrots and broccoli are all charred and lifeless. Is it so much to ask that I enjoy simple last supper while the plane is careening through the air? But I can’t even enjoy something as basic as chicken and vegetables without wanting to vomit it out.

Good advice. Entry level venues in Sydney Austalia would be typical in that they are set up on quiet nights (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) no pay - there's a mic but not a stage. 3 minute sets - not for the comedian more for the venue to turn over lots of people to get as many in as possible to buy drinks. It's about buying drinks not developing comedy. It's good to test material but open mic venues is where comedy goes to die if you stay on this level for too long. You need to get past open mic and find venues more Conducive to delivering a good set (stage, mic, good production, dedicated comedy venue) audience that is receptive and there for comedy.

100% My husband hates me doing bad rooms because he doesn't feel like you get good enough feedback but I'll always love the one off laughs you can get in a weird room 😅 those are literally my favorite
@talchalak8036Ай бұрын
@@TatumBorealis I work in showbiz and I believe future talent is found in these kinds of spaces. Unfortunately most of the open mic performers were terrible - I wouldn’t even call them amateurs. The venue didn’t have a stage they provided a mic but no mic stand - the people running it don’t care and in their ignorance and neglect they do more harm than good. At the very least the place needs to conducive to the performance if not it’s a waste of time and space.

If you have to explain it then its not really comedy and besides that the only ones that laughs at their jokes are either a room full of people who are easily amused and will laugh at virtually everything anyway or its laugh tracks.

He's definitely one of my idols. If you make anymore videos (and I really hope you do!) I'd love one on the ridiculousness of Katt Williams. Like how he gets ALL of his physical jokes to land gloriously 😅 never, ever cringe. I want to do more physical comedy but no one talks about the intricacies of it.
