I just used the Make Market vinyl and was amazed at how easily it was to weed and peel. I did use the glossy finish though maybe try that one. Great review by the way

Hey Ana, your Autumn signs are definitely cute! But very professionally made. We don’t really go in for decorating for “Fall” over here, though pumpkins are becoming very popular with much muttering from miserable old gits - like me - about “American habits being thrust upon us”! Decorating for Fall or not, I like your signs, and anyway, you’re Canadian, so that’s different! x

You don't decorate for fall/autumn? That never occurred to me! But it must be said that your scenery, homes and architecture as far far nicer than ours! You wouldn't need to decorate and your entry would already be nicer than ours. I live on the border of Canada and America and we complain that 'American habits are thrust on us' as well! And even though we can physically see America across the river, we are staunchly Canadian! Very fiercely defensive of our identity 😆🍁❤😊

Thank you! I have to admit, I spent a long time trying to work out in my head how it would be easiest to apply the contact paper - the usual recommendation is to start at one end and slowly pull back the backing, but I feel like I need about 10 arms to do this. And wow, this is so so much easier!

Hi, Ana. Wow, great shelf! The use of foam board and peel & stick was a good idea and won’t weigh the shelf down. I was amazed how professionally you applied that sticky plastic - no messing about and just the tiniest of creases. Brilliant! Thank you Mags!! I spent a couple of weeks trying to think of the best way to stick that paper on, practicing in my head. How is the Douglas 2 years in? 🤔
@HomeCulture
@HomeCulture 17 күн бұрын
Still super comfortable. We both agree it's still the most comfortable and supportive mattress we've ever slept on. One of the biggest reasons we looked for a new mattress was because Ralph was waking up with a sore back. Since we switched, that's gone. The traditional spring mattress we used before just wasn't supportive enough. I would buy another Douglas for sure. And now they have newer models that I wish I had an excuse to buy!
@TallCJ
@TallCJ 17 күн бұрын
@@HomeCulture does Douglas offer mattress disposal of your old mattress or did you have to arrange that some other way? Also did you find the mattress cover stayed in place or slipped around when moving on memory foam?
@HomeCulture
@HomeCulture 15 күн бұрын
@@TallCJ We moved the old mattress to our spare room, so I never looked into that part of it. Locally we have a refuge shelter that takes mattresses, that's were I have 'disposed' of mattresses before. Sometimes women's shelters are looking for mattresses to help set up families in their new life, too. As for the mattress pad, mine is a little big for the mattress, so when I change the sheets I notice it bunched up at some point, but I don't notice that when I'm in bed. I don't notice the mattress pad at all, so I guess it stays pretty well in place! (This is a new 'summer cooling' mattress pad - the one that I bought with the Douglas fits perfect and I don't remember it moving at all - that's my winter warm one lol)

@HomeCulture
@HomeCulture 22 күн бұрын
Yes! Keep it! The trunks are great for storage and look so cool in a room 😀 If you wet the paper and leave it to soak in for 10 - 20 minutes, I think it will come off so easy. Wet it down either with a spray bottle or wet rag. I had some ripped pieces in this trunk and that worked for me. Have fun giving yours a makeover!

The Restor-A-Finish actually breaks down the original finish - it's a solvent. So as you are wiping in circles it's breaking down - like melting - the finish and blending it into the scratches. So the scratches are still there, but they get filled in with the 'melted' finish. After a couple days I added a top coat for protection and the table now looks 20 years younger! I wish I could use this on myself!

@HomeCulture
@HomeCulture Ай бұрын
Originally, I was going to paint all the drawers green and only the top of the dresser with the wood finish. I thought that would be too much green and changed my mind. I didn't think the wood finish would turn out so good! If I were to do it again, I'd paint the top 2 drawers green and the bottom four with the wood finish. Unfortunately, the drawers aren't interchangeable and only fit in that exact configuration.

I had 3 trunks that were in my family, the newest a foot locker from an uncle who had it in WW2. I gave it to my friends daughter. I also gave her my mom’s doll from the 1930’s and the custom steamer trunk that held the clothes, everything handmade including the hangers. I hope she finds someone who will like it as well as I did when I was a child in the 1960’s. My great-grandmother’s trunk is from the mid 1800’s and was identical in a museum that was staged in a train station during that era. It was used to store linens and I still have the original removable tray. Nobody seems to want trunks anymore but my grandfather’s large trunk served as a coffee table and even extra seating when I bought my home. My family always took care of the things that they had, so other than the usual scuffing that trunks endured when they were on trains, they are in decent shape with their original leather handles.
