NYU isn’t that good of a school to be quite honest, and just like any school, be solidified in your reasonings for going, and have genuine reasons before you invest. Its only selling point is living in NYC.. if you want live in NYC and you have money, apply to NYU: you’ll get in. NYU is the epitome of hype - it’s the ‘SUPREME’ of higher ed. If you’re only interested in being in NYC, there are so many other schools you can look at, so I caution those who are looking at NYU exclusively for living in NYC. Other than that, the video was great, especially in regards to having a certain interest in a professor or group of professors as a reason for applying.

I did better on the august than the march one. In march I got a 1300 (590 eng 710 math) and a 1360 in the august one (640 eng 720 math) I didn't think it was hard but there were some questions I definitely slacked off on which costed me lots of points probably because of the weight of each question

Score choice, or the ability to choose which scores to send to your colleges, is unfortunately not available for all schools. Score choice policies depend on the university you are applying to and many will ask you to send all SAT scores you have taken. Make sure to check the SAT policies for the schools you have in mind!

Why would anyone cancel their score? If they're applying to Georgetown?
@The_Hagwon2 ай бұрын
There are lots of legitimate reasons to canceling a score. Students who felt that they were not in the best physical and/or mental state on test day for a number of reasons might want to cancel their score. If you walked into an exam without having properly studied and prepared you might consider canceling your score. These are reasons not necessarily related to the schools students may be applying to :)
@Jake-cc7ie2 ай бұрын
@@The_HagwonBut if you already paid, what do you have to lose? An exam is different in class. You're normally forced to take it and it's normally a one shot thing that can hurt your grade. With the SAT, you already paid and basically just see digits on a website for your score, it shouldn't harm anything versus cancelling unless you're applying to a school that considers them all
@The_Hagwon2 ай бұрын
Exactly! Everyone is applying to a different list of schools that wildly vary in policy regarding standardized test scores. Many might be applying to schools where score choice is not an option. It's not necessarily wrong or reckless to cancel your score as long as you are thinking deeply about your personal situation and goals :)
@Jake-cc7ie2 ай бұрын
@@The_HagwonI just feel like pointing out the deadline and stuff can lead some people to cancelling their score(s), when to my knowledge this is rarely worth it. @The_Hagwon2 ай бұрын
The number of rhetorical synthesis (bullet point) questions at the end of Module 2 is not the best indicator of Upper vs Lower Module. Instead, try to think back to the difficulty of the Words in Context questions you had, if you had many inference questions, and if you didn't see many Main Idea, Structure, Purpose questions.

@The_Hagwon2 ай бұрын
It's definitely a good sign to get several inference questions in Reading & Writing Module 2! Length is not the best indicator of difficulty, but here are some other factors that may indicate an Upper Module: Words in Context (vocabulary) questions with difficult vocab words as answer choices; absence of Main Idea, Structure, Purpose questions in the module; less Writing questions, maybe even starting at # 18 or # 19.

@The_Hagwon2 ай бұрын
You can absolutely superscore Paper SAT and Digital SAT scores! Superscore is a policy set by each university/college and not by Collegeboard, though, so you will have to check the policy of the school you're applying to. Most schools will allow you to superscore and use your highest Reading & Writing score and Math score regardless of test format - as long as the test has been taken within 5 years of application.

When I get my results will they also say which module I got?

The Digital SAT score report does not indicate whether students had the Upper or Lower Module 2. You will simply get one score for both Reading and Writing Modules and one score for both Math Modules.

I understand the frustration around not being able to really understand your test day performance based on your score. Many like to assume that if you score 600+ it is likely you had the Upper Module. Personally, I feel it is more helpful to focus on the different content domains instead of difficulty levels: If your score report indicates you are missing a good amount of Algebra and Geometry & Trig questions, it's a good idea to review basic math concepts; if your score report indicates you are missing a lot of Standard English Conventions and Expression of ideas, it's a good idea to review your grammar rules before focusing a lot of your energy on Reading questions.

@The_Hagwon2 ай бұрын
Based on the new information on how the Digital SAT is scored, there doesn't seem to be a single curve where x number of questions wrong = y number of points deducted for all students. Unfortunately this makes predicting your score very difficult based on how many questions you think you missed. In addition, many of the questions in Module 2 of Reading and Writing were repeats and variations from previous exams - these questions are less likely to be experimental questions. However, since there were so many inference questions in Module 2 for most people, it is likely that at least one of those is an experimental question! So the Digital SAT scoring is based on several factors, including the difficulty level of the question. We know that two students who miss the same number of questions will not necessarily receive the same score. It is therefore likely that you will be LESS penalized for missing a harder question, but exactly by how much is unclear. Digital SAT scoring isn't exactly transparent, unfortunately. I honestly don’t like this advice. I switched from the SAT to the ACT at the end of my Junior year and went from a 1550 SAT superscore to a 35 flat score ACT. ACT is just more my style.
@The_Hagwon4 ай бұрын
Glad to hear it worked out for you! Here's how we see it: Our view is that a 1530-1560 on the SAT is roughly equivalent to a 35 on the ACT (2018 act/sat concordance tables: www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/ACT-SAT-Concordance-Tables.pdf ), so the extra time and effort that went into studying for a different standardized test (which you already got a really good score on) could've been better allocated doing something like writing your college apps. Of course, some students don't choose the right test for them initially, and that'd be one of the few instances in which we might advocate for switching (for example, roughly, a student with a really weak math section taking the SAT). All in all, it's just not the greatest use of your time, especially if you're already in the top 1-3 percentile of scorers. At that point, we've found that most students end up with diminishing returns.
