Is it true that wingsuiting is the most dangerous sport in the world? I thought I heard that on a documentary program. They were flying down mountains, and over long stretches of rough terrain! Beautiful scenery but the guy said every year a veteran of the sport gets killed by crashing? Does anyone know if this is true?

This is true when it comes to base jumping with a wingsuit. BASE stands for Building Antena Structure Earth. People in this sport jump off a static object with a unique parachute (they are called base jumpers), Potentially fly a wingsuit (called wingsuit base jumping), potentially close to terrain (that's called proximity flying). That last part is the one you are mentioning, the most extreme. You can wingsuit off of planes though and the statistics are drastically different, think scuba diving or boxing in terms of comparison. Deaths are very rare. This is what we did here. Even if flying in big formation increases risks significantly, we are still not anywhete close to proximity flying !

Do you know what are rules about ws rodeo? I mean- how does it count as- just 2 way and everyone can be on top on wingsuit or is it like most things- 200 jumps and C licence needed? Next weekend im gonna ask CI of dropzone i jump ( netheravon, uk) and see what she says😁

According to this video just before he opened his parachute his speed was below 90 KPH. When you jump off a 100 foot cliff your impact velocity is around 87 KPH and people have jumped from even higher altitudes into water and survived without injuries. So, why is it that water landing in wingsuit is not a survivable event?

Good question ! The main reason is that you are comparing two speeds that are not equal. First, even though the horizontal speed on the video is 90kph, there is still a lot of vertical speed (say roughly the same) so the total speed is actually closer to 180kph. Then there is the angle of attack, a diver makes sure he is straight as as arrow when entering water and people have died from bad landings in water. The position you need to display in a wingsuit to lower your horizontal speed would be similar to a belly flop and at that speed ...

When the circle builds, the whole formation slows down. If you're not hooked to it, it can get really hard to fall that slow by yourself. In the sport we say he "sunk" when the formation became "floaty", he could not match the fall speed.
