Grease !!! I was part of the cast in a highschool production (Westsyde Secondary, Kamloops), and have very fond memories of the music & dance numbers. Can't wait to see it on stage, but as an audience member (haha). ** do the hand jive! **

Thank you for making this available. As an immigrant it was very rare for me to be able to access and connect with the first nations culture and because of this I spent many years being completely ignorant of it. I am trying to learn more now and make connections so that I can learn about the truth and what we can do moving forward

Just watched the livestream performance from the Kay Meek Theatre, April 7, 2022 of Hey Viola, and it was fabulous. Krystal's performance was stunning. I don't usually like "musicals" but I was curious to see how music would be used to portray the life of Viola Desmond and I could not have been more surprised, impressed and moved. What a treat to find this Artist Talk created 2 years earlier. Best of luck to you, Krystal, and the rest of the musicians for the whole cross Canada, 2022 tour.

My KZbin name on here comes from when I heard the Viola Desmond story 16 years ago on CBC and was really moved by it. Coincidentally one of my dogs of the McCairn lineage was about to whelp a litter of puppies. We had previously named all or our Cairn Terriers from the McCairn kennel, posthumously after notable Canadians. A few days after hearing the CBC story, 3 Cairn Terrier puppies were born. They were duly named and registered with the Canadian Kennel Club as: Viola Desmond McCairn, Pearlene Oliver McCairn and Reverend William Oliver McCairn....(Viola, Pearlene and Ollie). I think the CBC story named Pearlene and Rev. William Oliver as members of the Nova Scotia Association for Coloured People (?), who bailed Viola out of jail and helped get her a lawyer. If I still had puppies to name, one of them for sure would be called Wanda Robson McCairn, Viola's younger sister who worked for years to get Viola pardoned posthumously by the Nova Scotia Government, and got an official apology from the NS government. For 16 years when anyone stops me with Viola or Ollie on a walk and asks what is the dog's name, they get a quick history lesson about Viola Desmond.

Well done Laura, thank you. We asked ourselves why is this happening to a specialized group of women? IAre they being targeted because of their ethnic background? There were many examples of the trauma suffered but what are the answers, how can we help. How do we stop the trend?? Education is one thing, yes but what can we do to prevent this abuse towards all women. Again thank you very poignant.

Laura: Thank you for sharing this history. My wife and I enjoyed working with Joe and Anne when Joe was with special services with the Kamloop's School District. Both very grounded in their culture and committed to challenging the non-aboriginal community to be open; inclusive and accepting of the First Nations Culture. Jim Fornelli

To be fair, he confronted the suspected thief, they got into a brawl, and he died in the fight. So it was most likely an accidental murder, not premeditated!
