the beginning of this video is the story of my life! I was a rugby player playing professionally when I was 17 until my 23 than I moved to another nation so my life changed. I married I have a daughter and so I got confortable. I was used to weight almost 90 kg and run 100 in almost 12 sec exactly like you, and now I weight 110 kg and I´d like to lose those 10 kg at least. I Quitted smoke since some months and rn I am doing a lot of sports I wish I began before, like kick boxing, climbing running etc. I had a great mtb in the basement and last week I decided to let it repair it. btw when I saw you logo you earned a new subscriber because its exactly the same tatoo i got on my back back in my rugby days

great inspirational video (p's123) Man I was happy when I found these - watched each about 3 times each. Then this morning I see they are a few years old and no new videos. Any new ones coming out? Hope so, If not I hope you are still out riding. Thanks for putting them out there to watch. I also am slowly getting back into biking shape. Long time cyclist, then marriage, dogs and Kid. Life as we know it. Now 61 yrs old and in Nov. bought a great COVID clearance mtb. Price was grand and I couldn't be happier. That wasn't enough. I replaced my old fitness bike from yester-year with a new (COVID clearance) hybrid that I can hit the more accessible paved trails. I couldn't be happier. Now I've gotta work on the "eating right" part, which i suck at . . . but I quit the alcohol - I guess that is a step in the right direction. Again thanks so much. Keep ridin'
@darwinrides1688
@darwinrides1688 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words and congrats! Giving up alcohol will result in big gains, many of which you will never even know you gained. Food is a fickle mistress though. The good news is that you don't have to give all of it up, all of the time (just don't mix fat and carbs - but you already know that by now). I still ride and I still eat well. COVID shut down the MTB racing for a while, and I quietly turned 50 during that break. These videos were a lot of work, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Season's change. Be well!

The size guide was accurate when I bought mine (several years ago). I bought the XL which is a lot to bike. I'm 6'1" with a long body. I like a lot of room to move around the frame. The XL was perfect for me, but some find it too much.

Bikes Direct has a large assortment of bicycles at bargain prices. I have a Gravity full sus fat bike and a Motobecane hard tail fatty that I got from them as well. If you want to save a lot of weight where it counts the most, convert the tires to tubeless and get some new rubber. (Bikes Direct specs some really heavy tires on their bikes to keep the cost down). Also, to increase the versatility of your bike you may want to get a set of 29 plus wheels. I found a pair on line that consisted of WTB rims with tubes and tires included for under $200!

I would agree, however, using that philosophy typically results in weight gain. Weight gain in this case is a good thing, but in the absence of any other way to measure progress, it can be demoralizing. But, you are right!

New to mountain bikes. Matter of fact, has been over 20 years since I have been on one. So decided to visit local store, dropped 400 bucks on a starter bike and gonna get broke in. I am 51, ex-military , and ur vid spoke. I too was a beast in my day, could run 2 miles under 11 minutes, and drop some pain on folks when I got there. Parachute accident changed all that in just a few seconds. Now, overweight and soft, my mid life crisis has kicked in and I wanna go back to beast mode. So, gonna follow ur tip and focus on weight loss and endurance first. If the bike I bought can hang, who knows where it will go. But, all that to say, thanks, I am gonna watch the series and see what u have to say and try and change my life. Growing old sux, see if I can get back a little of my youth! Cheers!

How is the wear and tear on the drivetrain from fine sand? Have you seen anyone ride with Rohloff sealed hub?
@darwinrides1688
@darwinrides1688 Жыл бұрын
I don't ride on the beach that often (usually only while on vacation in Ft Myers). However, home is Florida; every trail here is predominantly fine sand, mixed with shell rock and some muck. The sand is hard on the gears. I go through chains, chain rings and sprocket every thousand miles or so... I have not had any trouble (yet) with hubs.
@peter572
@peter572 Жыл бұрын
@@darwinrides1688 I noticed that your bike has alloy rims with weight saving cut-outs. Does sand get trapped inside the holes? If yes, I bet sand particles rain down on the drivetrain once those holes are in the top position. Do you think that a solid carbon rim could keep the drivetrain slightly cleaner?
@darwinrides1688
@darwinrides1688 Жыл бұрын
@@peter572 Sand is a fact of life in Florida, but those holes don't collect sand; they are convex, under pressure. Constant cleaning and using a quality, dry chain lube is about all one can do. Besides, that whole bike costs less than $800 (after upgrades)....virtually "disposable" in comparison to the cost of carbon wheels.

You are absolutely spot-on! I’ve been on a journey from January to June and I’ve hardly lost any weight, I’ve been doing high intensity, I’ve been doing long distance, I’ve been doing running cycling and hillwalking. But I haven’t lost any weight due to the type of food do that I eat. I’ve been intermittent fasting and binge eating. At times I’ve put on weight. More recently I’ve been doing less exercise intensity but increasing the times and this seems to help. I’ve been eating in moderation and getting a higher mixture of vegetables, this has also helped. Next thing I would do is take your advice and do less intense exercise whilst fasting as this seems to make a lot of sense.

Shower. Eat something healthy. Then sleep. Repeat this process for the next 2 months. I dropped 50 lbs doing this. Since then I sustained two injuries during COVID which sidelined me for the last 2 years. I gained it all back plus more. Now that I’ve recovered (sort of), I’m gonna do this all over again - starting a as soon as I press send on this comment. See you boys 2 months (and 60 lbs lighter) from now!
