This is real memory for me, when I was a little girl we went to the school uniform shop in the local town to buy my older sister something. The store had glass counter with lots of draw full of ties and socks etc, you were served properly, anyway we were given this single as a free gift, it was one of those floppy thin records like the ones you’d get free on the front of a magazine. It was such a prize as I was born in January. I have listened to it all my life.

People think of Pilot as January and Magic, but their four albums have some top quality, timeless songs as good as Squeeze and Paul McCartney songs, well worth checking out.

David Paton composed some great songs which I grew up listening to. I had a crush on him then but now it’s started all over again ❤ his voice and beautiful smile makes me melt and I’m old enough to know better lol. Thank you for your amazing talent x

Hard to touch these guys! David has such a range and his band is exemplary. You're in a cover band and you try these songs and then abandoned the idea. We can't all sing like him.

Essa banda e incrivel ! Me apaixonei pela musica" its magic " quando ouvi no RADIO ! E comprei o DISCO DE VINIL "PILOT" album from the same name 3 vezes o mesmo disco pediam emprestado e não devolviam ! Eu comprava novamente ! Dai então eu comprava todos os discos dessa banda ! O mais incrivel e que ninguem conhecia a banda e se apaixonava pelas musicas !

I am not certain about this but I think Billy Lyall and David Paton were lovers from the time they reached puberty they had a hidden relationship from the public . They were definitely ahead of their time with the song Magic and January .

When I first saw them on TV, I thought, ‘it’s the guy from the Bay City Rollers’. I think I’d seen a documentary on that band a year or two before and seem to recall he featured in it. I liked all of Pilot’s songs, that I heard. DP was a magnificent singer and they had a brilliant guitarist. The descending guitar runs on this number are really difficult. IB handled them with aplomb. They should have had more hits, but their timing was a bit out. They and other great MOR acts, ran headlong into the oncoming punk, new wave disaster.
