The GX9 compared to my old Canon 20D is in a class of its own, days are gone where lugging a big camera round with a big zoom lens are over, I love the tactile small feel of this camera and it does not disappoint, the imagines I get impress me every time, I think Panasonic won't bring out a GX9 MKII which is a shame, comapred to some of the Sony's, Fujifilm, Canons, and Nikons, this camera still holds its own, and the mega pixel sizes have not really jumped that much....lets face it, most print out at A4, and that's good enough at 8MP, so 20MP in my books is high enough for me. Brilliant camera, and so small compact, lightweight, but most of all brilliant image quality.

EM1X is the camera I always wanted. The camera is big enough to fit the now ancient SHG glass from Olympus 4/3 ie 7-14 14-35 35-100 150mm F2 (little Tuna) which I still think is splitting hairs some of the best optics ever produced by any system. The stunning Pana Leica 1.2 42.5 and 10-25mm F 1.7 zoom. Pair The EM1x with a Atomos Ninja V 4K prores raw with the best image stabilizer ever, and olympus color. The EM1x is built like a Tank. This combo is just massive for the price. Now with Topaz and AI .. really this is the combo of combos. I can't see anything really better for the price & power value for a long time coming. We are blessed with this tech IMO in the age we live in. That being said when the GH7 is old..I' prob pick one of those up. If people think EM1X is too big, they could prob find e-m1 for a couple of hundred as a backup and small B cam .. that is still really solid for photos as well

Definitely a nice little camera… But if you’re looking for a mini, don’t overlook the Olympus Pen e-PM2! Smaller, lighter,16mp vs. 12, plus stabilization… an overlooked little jewel! It’s cheaper too!

I bought a Em1-X for narrative short movies. I decided to NOT go the GH5 route. The Oly filmic colors, better ergonomics and the ruggedness have overshadowed every other video spec of the GH5. Matti Hapoja killed the Gh5 for me with the (NOT free) vlog green tint and it has indeed quite a video and digital look. Plus, if it is as bad in low light as my Olympus- no speedbooster, too expensive, thanks 😂- then, all in all, my Canon C100 is a much better camera than the Gh5. (Oly has too good of the ergonomics to lose here). But Oly video limitations are narrow minded and showed a blatant refusal to make a true hybrid camera (no zebra in video?!, slow motion without sound, pro lenses that are far too expensive for the sensor size- so exit the AF, Live ND but not in video, 8 bit 420, just to name a few). And most importantly- where are the video firmware updates?! Fortunately, it still has 120 fps, fast motion, log, amazing stabilization and a pretty good battery (no C100 level, neither). I couldn’t care less for 4k.

@@grantrobertdavies A true crime- only a histogram. I guess I should have gone with the Gh5… But, I don’t know. I’ve seen footage from S5 mark ii and I’m not impressed. So the Gh5… My Canon 1DC and C100 have too good of the image and I’ll never forget the Gh5 pro seller that told me that the C100 was another level of camera. So I never had the chance to test it.

My D750 is used mostly for portrait work and it does a great job at that. However, its autofocus in video mode is wonky and unreliable. I've upgraded to the Fujifilm XH2s and love the built-in film sims and the autofocus in video is much faster than the Nikon. For news and documentary work, I only bring out the XH2s. The Nikon rarely comes out now. I know, the XH2s is APS-C but few can really tell the difference out there in photo viewing world.

Many of those features are also in the somewhat larger GX8, for which I have a 20mm and a 12-50 (Olympus) lens -- the latter of which is a trifle obtrusive, I admit. As a retiree and photography hobbyist, in careful what I spend on, and had tossed up between the GX8 and the GX85 before deciding the GX8 was more what I wanted. As I think of the Panasonic cameras, it seems to me that they built some great cameras, but lacked an overall vision for the rangefinder like range. Is the GX9 really the GX95? Is the GX8 in the GX line at all? Is the GX85 actually the real GX8? Whatever, a GX9/ii or a GX10 sounds like a great idea to me!

Thanks for the video. Have a pen e-pl3 on the way with 15mm body cap lens. Like to use that as my street edc but think a small fast prime would be better. I have the 15mm 1.7 but feel that's a bit large and would fit better on my g85. Considering 17mm 2.8 but many commenters here have great suggestions, such as 14mm, 20mm pancakes, or even oly 17-1.8. Any suggestion on a lens pairing with e-pl3?

Late to the party... but... my S1 has just arrived. Currently on charge 😁 It is replacing my Nikon D4. Its operation is very much the same as my G9 which is a huge bonus for when switching from camera to camera. There are a few changes that make it operate better than the G9. The joy stick is far better as is the placement of the focus mode switch and dial. The build is just superb, although the G9 still sits more comfy in the hand. XQD cards are just brilliant and a lot cheaper these days. A bonus for me also since I have 3 XQD cards already, since my D4s used them. The focus system is supposed to be a bit better than the G9 but I shall see. My G9 setup consists of just 3 lenses. The 35-100 F2.8, the Olympus 12-40 F2.8 and the 42.5mm F1.2. This for me is a perfect set up. To compliment it with the S1 I shall use just two lenses. The 24-105 F4 and the Sigma 50mm F1.2. I shall also purchase the battery grip so I can attach my flash flipper. I am primarily a people shooter. After many many years..... I finally feel I have the best and ultimate setup ! you can see some of my work here instagram.com/g_s_nelson_photography/

Hello everyone! I am a beginner who is into photography and want an under 1000aud camera. Hence, I have two options are G85 for 899aud (~611usd) and a G100 for 999aud (~679usd). I'm considering because the g100d is newer with an OLED EVF. However, the G85 has weather sealing, and IBIS. Moreover, I have a big hand, so I guess the small camera won't be good for handling. Therefore, I want to ask everyone opinions on this. Are the IQ and colour science on the new G100D worth over the weather-sealing and IBIS. Thank you everyone!!!

Just ordered a used G9 on Amazon. I had one several years ago but sold it because I simply had too much camera gear and decided to stick with my FF Canon. I'm getting back into photography now that my kids are playing sports. I know the G9II has the better focusing system but I don't recall having any issues focusing with the G9 when I had it. Then again I wasn't shooting 10 and 11 year olds running around on the soccer and football fields. We shall see how it (and I) keeps up with the fast action with the 200mm f2.8 Panasonic lens mounted to it. I couldn't bring myself to pay close to $2k for the g9ii when I could get a used G9 for $500.

Hey Grant, I've owned the EM1X for a couple of years now and I can't fault it. It's size and weight is comparable to a Canon 5D but it offers so many more useful features, not just gimmicks, but features that you will use on a daily basis. The sensor stabiliser is incredible and paired with OIS lenses its one of the best. Low light shooting is great thanks to the stabilisation, you can hand hold night shots at ISO 200-800 easily and if you use a tripod the sky's the limit. It was, and still is, an incredibly versatile camera in my opinion. If you do get the chance to buy one at a good price go for it! You won't regret it.

Yss, you can improve it in post, but the image quality coming of the MFT is just not the same. We can argue and beat the dead horse over and over, full frame will have a much better low light performance straight out of the camera. On the GH7 or G9ii, there is visible noise at 3200 iso. On the R6ii same noise is maybe at 25000. Once you use a full frame and see how clean the low light images are you will be disappointed when using an MFT and have the same expectations.

Panasonic might want to maximize the efficiency of their R&D. The price of a camera like G9m2 must be several times higher than the material cost, while the factor would be smaller for a GF-series camera. Since they would not have redundant manpower for M43 lineup anymore, it makes sense that they focus it on the most efficient product. It is not beautiful that G9m2 re-uses the housing of S5, but I hope Panasonic continues the M43 system at least this way. After all, they should do business not an art. If they stand strong in the camera market with their full-frame system, probably they would release a lightweight M43 camera.

Thanks for this. A lot would be helpful for the GX8 as well. With older eyes, focus is a growing problem, so any tools along those lines are very useful. I don't use WB all that much, but I sometimes see some really lovely sunsets and find the colour temperature adjustments are really helpful then. I first came across this with my first digital camera, because I only had a concept of daylight/incandescent/fluoro from my film days. My wife and I set off on the Great Ocean Road, and, before we started out from Melbourne, over a week into the trip, she decided she did want a camera after all, so we got a fairly cheap Kodak from Hardly Normal. It always got better sunsets, of which there were lots of good ones in 2004, than my next model up, which fixed up the reds and yellows. Hers didn't bother trying, and caught the full splendour. I agree about the rule of thirds grid lines. They also help with keeping the camera level, something I struggle with if there are no guides. And I often find that the taslk of keeping the camera aligned almost subconsciously also has me lining up the composition as well, even if I forget that's what I should be thinking about. As I am of the" RTFM -- after everything else fails" kind, I'll rewatch this. Thanks!

Grant, I almost completely agree. I am fully invested in M4/3. 2 OM1 bodies, the 150-400, etc. So I love shooting M4/3. And I can definitely tell the difference between my FF Leica and OM1. Does it matter? No. And yes, modern software eliminates many historic trade offs. But the bit depth of the original file is limited by the sensor tech and can’t be compensated for in post. Not a problem, just is.

I have used it on commercial shoots that need a lo-fi look for products and portraits. It does the job if you compose correctly without reframing to avoid pixel loss. Then again, any camera in a studio environment can do the job. It slightly lacks a bit of sharpness, which isn't lens related and tonal variation is not incredible, but it's great for flat, even lighting. I wouldn't use it for pictures that need high contrast.

What makes it special is the LFV-1 viewfinder! I have mine with a vintage Canon 50mm 1.4 and some Oly lenses like the 45mm 1.8 and 30mm macro, it's incredibly versatile for day to day snapshots. The BW is not as premium as a Sigma DP, but the gritty aspect of the GF1 and small size makes it an enjoyable experience. Oh and it fires up 500x times faster than any Sigma DP camera…
