There was something repulsive about Halliwell - the grand manner, the pretensions, the snobbery and the propriotorial way he treated Orton in the early part of the relationship. You wonder why they didn't split up in 1963 when they left prison. I doubt at that point Halliwell would have committed suicide, still less murdered Orton. It was like they spent the rest of their lives in the same cell.

Someone once told me this film was originally going to be called 'prick up your ass', not sure how true that is..Derek Jarman does a quick cameo as the guy who painted Orton naked, who was quite a well known painter called Patrick Proctor. My mother was good friends with him and taught his son the piano, who also went to the same school as me

Alan Bennett's screenplay is FANTASTIC. I particularly love the echoes. Wishes & predictions that actually come true & play out as real life 10 years later. Real life conversations that end of being replayed on stage. Kenneth telling Joe his life story, which then ends up being retold by Joe as his own. Peggy Ramsay's voiceover in the future showing up as real life past 5 minutes later. Life imitates art imitates life.

Great muscle car and second amendment gun action. Especially when Jody says you don't aim a gun at a man unless you intend to shoot him. The 70's rocked!

Bill Thornbury was still sexy as he|| in this documentary; those eyes, wowsa. He was a knockout as Jodie, in that 70s way. I wish they included more of his and Reggie's music. I really disliked Phantasm 2 because he wasn't in it and I hated the substitute for Mike's character. (Ironically, when I first saw Phantasm, I couldn't stand Baldwin, lol, but now I won't even watch 2 due to the lack of him and Bill.) As for Reggie--he never changes! :D

I'm only a few yes younger than Michael and seen this when it first came out in 79. Loved horror flix since I was 6 or 7 yrs old, so seeing this was THE ultimate in horror movies atcthe time, for me. I was able to see myself as Michael and the emotions were real. I've always had very vivid and wild dreams, so with there being this sense of what was real and what was a dream, that hit me hard. I hadn't seen this until now and it's made my day! Thank you for finding and sharing with us fans.

The chainsaw fight has to be a homage to motel hell or TCM. Maybe both but theres a chainsaw fight at the end of motel hell where 1 guy pulls out a chainsaw and then the other guy pulls out an even longer chainsaw 😂

You can tell a true “phan” was interviewing Coscarelli. When he’s talking about a specific alternate ending, you hear a voice ask “you didn’t shoot that?” to make sure there’s no lost footage somewhere. Well done! 👍

Love this film. Thanks for posting. I actually reviewed it on my channel. Jill Schoelen is adorable, and Roger Wilson gives me some serious Luke Skywalker farm boy vibes, but instead of wanting to join the rebellion, he just wants to join a Rock Band and play the Palace:) Good times:)

I wonder if John Coats saw an opportunity to cash in on the Star Wars craze, especially seeing Jane Wiley's more than passing resemblance to Carrie Fisher.
