So the white horse was standing quite, then flag him in the face scare him some more? Stinking flags. Want a bee back yard crap. And yes this is coming from a cowboy that has worked all over and started colts for more than one world champion. Hell even my dad eas one of the original coors cowboys. Buck and his buck a boos. When are people going to wake up.

I remember a clinic Ray held in Katherine Northern Territory Australia and a group of local Ringers brought in the roughest colts their Stations had to offer. Ray was having trouble with a particular colt and threw a rope over the colt and was dragged all over the round yard so the owner of the colt jumped in to help Ray. Ray abused the shit outa the owner who in turn packed up his truck and left never to look back. He wasted a shit tonne of money and got nothing from Ray Hunt . It put a stale taste in everyones mouth and was a very boring clinic after that.

Boy, I'm struggling. I'm thinking rein management can handle most if not all, lateral movement. But I get confused about these indirect rein in opposition - in front of withers: indirect rein in opposition behind the withers. Then direct rein, neck rein, lift rein, and we haven't even gotten to the outside rein. Whew... Then the locking of the croup in some positions...

I've always considered a spade bit the PhD level of training.. for both the horse and rider! I'm still in community college, but I really appreciate the training involved at this level.

@@vaqueroontario Mounting blocks are easier on the horse's back, and are safer for really short people of any age. I personally don't want to have my leg stretched 2 feet or more in the air, or bounce like a kangaroo while trying to get on a horse --- it's truly not safe.

I remember my first impression of the spade. I really thought it would be an agressive bit.after years of using them i understand how they work and their effectiveness. Maybe one way to explain part of their effectiveness would be mass or volume. They dont put al lot of pressure on any point to cause pain but when they are engaged the horse will notice and respond accordingly. I love them and so do my horses.

Ray was smart, he was protecting the young horses' mouths. If the humans had reins, they'd pull on them. I recall him saying something like, if you don't stop hanging onto your reins I'll cut them off. Time and time again, at every clinic I went to, he would say this to all students as a group. It was so important not to do it, that was why he took them away from humans whenever he could.
