Do you know how to recreate that moog sound on Roland Ax Edge Keytar? I asked Roland and even they didnt know. Keen to play it on keytar for my show 👍
@Angelstarscotland24 күн бұрын
"I asked Roland and even they didnt know" depends who at Roland you asked. It's a very simple synth sound to get something close on any analogue/virtual analogue synth. So in the above example (keep in mind it was 5 years ago) I think it was a mix between a square wave and a sawtooth wave slightly detuned ( maybe 3-4 cents). You'd need to set the AX in monophonoic mode with portamento set up to get the glide. If it sounds too harsh you can apply a little bit of low pass filter. I also used a a high pass filter to cut off any unwanted bottom end. A bit of reverb an old fashioned reverb like a plate or a spring reverb possibly add a tiny bit of amp/speaker sim. A little bit of fairly fast vibrato on the mod bar. That would get you close on the AX-Edge however where I'll agree with your Roland rep the Moog GM is particularly suited to this sound as it was a minimoog used in the original and I think it is highly unlikely you'll ever get the AX to sound as authentic as the above example. I think you could get something reasonably good on the AX, but the Moog oscillators have a distinct sound, and then there's the natural analogue drive from the amp circuits circuits and natural slight tuning variations that comes with real analogue. The Moog GM also has a REAL in spring reverb again perfect for that authentic 70s sound.

you should do a tutorial on how to make FM drums sounds. I have only ever seen the 808/moog approach.
@AngelstarscotlandАй бұрын
@@lukeomalley hi thanks for your comment. Being totally honest there’s not much to it with FM drum sounds. On the Pro800 you need to dive into the menus and select the fast envelopes (it’s been a while forget the exact name) set your amp envelope to attack 0 a fast decay sustain 0. Use the polymod to create unmusical tones and with that envelope setting it should make interesting percussion noises. Add some noise as desired(great for snares) You can also use the filter envelope assigned to your polymod to vary the sound at the start. If you’re doing it on DX7 type FM synthesis it’s a similar method. Just don’t use fixed ratios, non melodic is better for percussion.
