Could be that's just part of what the production wants (it's like this in all the recorded shows as well), but don't forget that it's incredibly, incredibly demanding to perform this. Traditional Irish dances usually last about 30 to 45 seconds in the first 2 levels, slightly longer in the higher levels. That's only because dancing for longer is hardly possible stamina-wise for most dancers. There's a dance, I think a traditional set, that's significantly longer than most others, which will usually get the crowds at a competition to sit up straight in a way like 'let's see if this one can manage it...' because most dancers will usually start off with full power but after about a minute you see the energy start to go down, the sharpness decreasing and things overal get a bit sloppy, while the dancer still has to go for a considerable amount of time. Now try to imagine that you dance for 2 full minutes straight, only get a short break in between to start dancing again for a full minute after just 1 minute of rest. It's not for nothing that I usually tell people there are basically 4 levels in Irish dance (Commission) and the show-stuff is the unwritten fifth one.

Michael Flatley totally ruined Irish Dance !!😮 In an attempt to "modernize" it , he turned it into sleazy trash. All of the shows that he has created since leaving Riverdance, have scantily clad women, sexually suggestive dance numbers, the men are dancing with their shirts off, like they're at a gym and the music is more like heavy metal......long live Riverdance !! Still clean, still tasteful, still classy, still the original and the best.🩷💕

it is part of a summer school where the pupils get to show what they've been taught in front of their (i guess) parents.

And of course if they are good they get invited to join the Riverdance cast.
