Okay, but what if the other is not taking responsibility, causing you to be defensive against the impact they're not controlling? Sounds to me you've just mentioned a chicken/egg type of scenario; am I defensive because someone else did not take their respective responsibility? Or is the other defensive because I'm not taking responsibility? And now a completely new dimension in communication becomes relevant; culture. What if I'm having a relationship with someone with another culture? Even in a single country many sub-cultures exist. My very showing of taking responsibility could be misconstrued as an attack seen from the cultural lense. We see this happening a lot in politics. For example, Dutch people have a culture in calvanism, and we're far more direct than most of the world is commonly used to. Let's say I have a relationship with an asian, where the culture favors politeness and indirectness. Your advise does not account for any of that. I'm not mad, just asking you to rephrase your video to account for these shortcomings. (in my opinion, of course!)
