On Saturday 30th December 2000 (day # 1211 of my living in Taiwan) Kunyang MRT subway station on the Blue Bannan line opened up to the public for the first time since being built. This station was about 4 km from my home & workplace, Academia Sinica.. The line had been extended with 3 new stations, namely Yongchun (永春, Yǒng-chūn), Houshanpi (後山埤, Hòu-shān-pí) & Kunyang (昆陽, Kūn-yáng) about 1 km apart. The previous terminal, Taipei city hall was about 7 km from my home & workplace, Academia Sinica. I had been looking forward to the official opening all year so knocked off work I caught a line # 212 bus to the new Kunyang station. Being a lover of taking subway trains I checked it out the new modern station thoroughly before catching a MRT train towards the CBD. I got off at Yong Chun and checked out that new station as well. Then I did the same thing when I disembarked at the 3rd new station, Houshanpi. And that was how I spent that whole Saturday afternoon and early evening. Now the Blue Bannan line has been further again extended with another 2 new stations, to Nangang in 2008 & Nangang Exhibition Centre (南港展覽館, Nán-gǎng zhǎn-lǎn-guǎn) in 2011, with the latter located just 1.7 km from Academia Sinica. I presume one day there will be an MRT subway running all the way to Adademia sinica and if there is I will certainly go back to take a good gander.

I love that the Orange Line C371s are finally getting refurbished. The new closed-door signs look very nice.

Taipei City Hall used to be my home station back when I lived there 16 years ago. I remember there weren't any barriers on the platform back then and the trains announced the station name audibly e.g. "[mandarin], [mandarin?], [mandarin?], Taipei City Hall Station" as you pulled into the station (looks like it's announced halfway through with english 2nd after mandarin). I look forward to visiting next month and remeniscing old memories whilst my fiancé explores a new country. 😁

The cameraman should have filmed the DM's movements all the way... that would have been great.

I like the bit when the pass the main stage doing the Super Mario number, stop and face the president and she instantly bows to them. A beautiful gesture 🙏
