Beta blockers are used in HF so the pump doesn’t have to work so hard. Metoprolol and carvedilol are commonly used

I took the CEN a year ago and only used Pocket Prep to study and failed with 98 This time, I got the BCEN book and did the BCEN practice exams and on my practice exams I got a 112 and a 113 and I took my CEN yesterday and passed with a 112 ❤️

I just completed the 1st online exam from the CEN review manual. I answered 125 correctly, which scored a 71.43. How does this score translate to how I would perform on the CEN? How do I know how many of the 125 I answered correctly were true questions?
@boz287
@boz287 2 ай бұрын
Good question. As the CEN exam is written by the BCEN and the BCEN and ENA overlap to a large degree. Any of their practice tests should correlate pretty well with the actual exam. I have been told that some of the practice test questions were actual exam questions but they had to eliminate some as they had too many. All of the practice exam questions should be "real" questions. The only "research" (beta test questions) are on the actual CEN exam. I hope this helps! Good luck!

hi, you mentioned PAD while explaining PVD, are they the same?
@boz287
@boz287 2 ай бұрын
Hi. Good question. For all practical purposes yes. PVD would include both arterial AND venous disease. PAD is only atherosclerosis of the arteries (same as carotid, coronaries etc - plaque, debris, thrombus, emboli). PVD would more include things like varicose veins and venous incompentence or venous insufficienty. The arterial ones (PAD) are more important to ER practice as they can result in occlusions, infarcts and amputations. The Venouse ones (more PVD) aren't real emergencies (IE: you don't loose limbs) - I hope this helps!

Missed just now by 3 questions. Sad because I didn’t think the test was too too hard, but so many questions with 2 correct answers. One I remember was “what’s the signs of increased ICP?” I was like, got this! Then the options… 2 nothing to do with that and -HTN or -irregular breathing pattern and I was like: what??? I chose the HTN but honestly why? How do I know which one to pick if they’re both sound correct? A few other questions were like that, that just made me so frustrated. The 3 questions I needed could be right if the goal was to test your knowledge instead of trying to be tricky. Thank you for your videos though, they were very helpful ❤

Interesting question though beta blockers are important in CHF. Carvedilol is very common in CHF patients.
@boz287
@boz287 6 ай бұрын
Yes you're right. Coreg has an evidence based benefit in HF, however.... as with all B-antagonists we have to be cautious of the heart rate. Some people are overly sensitive and their intrinsic heart rate drops thereby negating the benefit. Meds like entresto and aldosterone agents have shown a higher safety profile.

I believe the other major clue in the question is the 2 large bore IVs. You don't typically need that for CHF patients.@@boz287

Hello sir, I see you haven't posted in a while so not sure what you have been up to lately or if you are still teaching CEN content. I passed my CEN exam today and it was largely in part to the FREE videos you posted on your channel. The videos may be years old but still relevant in 2023. I can't believe you were gracious enough to share those. Is there a way I can donate something to you to show my appreciation? It would mean a lot To anybody who is wondering Mr. Boswell's videos, solheim enterprises CEN exams (all 3), and the BCEN practice exams are the only materials I used to pass. The BCEN practice exam scores correlate almost precisely how you will perform on the real test.

Yes I do. There are a few things that are no longer standard, they are obvious (frequent use of spine boards, hi-dose steroids in the trauma bay for SCI, and others). Over 95% is unchanged over the years. I hope this helps!
