The mounting holes might have addressed the issue as well, but I wanted the build to be as stock/seamless as possible. I took the route of hand filing between the gears. It worked mostly, but the faster that motor spins, the more those tiny filing flaws reveal themselves. All a learning process and a part of the fun!

I was looking for better low speed control over the 10t (plus the extra torque from the motor upgrade stripped the stock pinion). 12t seemed like a good move, but boy was I wrong!

@@Th3_Genius maybe you can find a 9t or 8t to gear it down but it can become fragile that small, unless you go with the gear reducing gearbox with a higher ratio and a higher speed motor, stock it's roughly 1:18 reduction with a 18k rpm motor, if you go like 1:35 you can get a higher speed 52k rpm 370 motor for instance, I went brushless but it's not without its challenge and quirks

@toddanderson1506 Good question. It probably would, but the cab height is different (MN82 is taller), so it may need modding to look right.

You've made all interesting points where I agree mostly. This was, in fact, a trail that had points of varying difficulty, not an obstacle course primarily focused on rock crawling. So based on this, I tasked myself with the job of determining the limitations of my built Landcruiser vs a "stock" Hilux, more tuned to off-roading. I believe they are both trail trucks. However, there are varying levels of trail trucks. Ie, level 1 being light duty(dirt roads/light mud trails/all terrain tires/stock power), to level 3(long travel suspension/sticky compound aggressive tread tires/portal axles/big power). A more dedicated crawler goes far beyond this, where they might have roll cages, very big tires, modified chasis, single seater, etc... So I think the MN82 can still carry load in the bed. The difference now is its performance has been significantly improved to where that isn't its only ability.
