@richardeagan3156 0 seconds ago Our church received as a gift a small Baldwin upright piano. The piano is in good condition in that it stays pretty much in tune between tunings. The issue is that there isn't that flow between notes due to a poor restrain. I have adjusted the pedal several times, but that in itself doesn't seem to really help. The pads are not touching the strings, but apparently enough that we are not getting the flow that I/we are looking for. In short, the issue seems to be somewhere other than at the pedal itself, Any suggestions? Reply

Maybe i watched & commented positively once before. But here i am again: the man is masterful. Great technician, great engineer! (I used to do minor piano restoration. ) youtube often gives us posers & freaks, so it's alrways wonderful to catch the real thing.

When preparing the sound board for filling the cracks, what did you do with those vertical wire-through screws? I suppose, this was for re-gluing the bars to the board?
@TornPiano
@TornPiano 6 ай бұрын
I utilized glue and a specialized tool to reattach the ribs that had become detached from the piano’s soundboard.

The cost of piano repair depends on the condition of the instrument, what needs to be changed, and how much time needs to be spent on it.

So how much did it cost to rebuild the piano? What do new ones cost? (Or even a used one)?
@TornPiano
@TornPiano 7 ай бұрын
The cost of piano repairs varies based on the extent of work required and the desired level of restoration. Similarly, new pianos come in a range of prices, with some being affordable and others from reputable brands being more expensive.

Hi good afternoon, Is it worthy to install on a 30 years old piano ? Because there is some minor work to be done on the action, at least one of the butt spring cord has to be changed and also tuning and adjustment work is required.
@TornPiano
@TornPiano 8 ай бұрын
If your piano is in good condition and has a reputable brand name, a silent system can be installed. You should also consult with your piano tuner.

it is always a pleasure to watch a master at work. i am restoring a 1920 sohmer baby grand i rescued. from my understanding it is an exact copy of the steinway. i used to play a concert steinway in college and in my poor and old age, i hope to restore this baby to play as sweet as that piano. lots of time and money for parts. maybe i will finish it before i die 🙂

I am working on a 1920 sohmer baby grand piano as well !!!! I would love to see your progress and maybe get some tips on the hammer to string distance as everywhere says 1 3/4 but I set them to that height and they rub on the pin block when I slide the action back in and I wonder if the height distance was different back then but I can’t find any info . thanks !

@@shanewaelchli212 you are way ahead of me! i have a lot going on and only get to work on the piano in the winter when i am not busy with my food forest, i have been busier retired, than when i was "working" 🙂 i hope to start full tear-down next winter. i wish i was farther into it so i could verify if i have the same problem, it would help us troubleshoot if we had 2 going side-by-side.

@@shanewaelchli212 maybe i can take some measurements of my strings as they are. it is not in terrible condition. i actually play it sometimes. it is surprisingly in tune for having been in a separate garage / shed! some of the keys have decent action. but many are not so good. i could measure the good ones and see if a statistically significant pattern emerges 🙂

Grand pianos of all sizes are not easily refurbished at home! Removing the metal frame requires equipment to lift it off. There is a crane and stand as shown here. It would require specialist movers to tow it away to a factory! Thanks for the video! Good job done!

Mr. Torn, wow. I don't have a piano and watched this ENTIRE video and this was an in-depth repair that was border-line insane. I know jobs would be priced "as-reviewed" but this is about the max of a hard-core restoration. I'm just dying to know what the range of this repair a customer would expect. Also, how many weeks did it take to complete this one job? Without a doubt, you are a Master Technician.
