I remember the old outdoor rink at Point Mallard many years ago. It was only open from mid November to mid March. I made a lot of good friends and many memories there. Too bad it's not there anymore.

My great great great grandmother married and had children with Frank Dancy. He was a slave and was fathered or grandfathered by one of the Dancy men on the Dancy Plantation.

I just wish they would make it to where the waves are always going. They stop like every 25 minutes or so.

i know im 2 years late but people get tired i know since you probably don't swim all the way to the wall and back you wouldn't understand a somewhat overweight lady died while trying to swim to the wall, she swallowed a ton of water and sunk to the bottom, drowning.

I wish Point Mallard Parks and Rec. would promote its ice rink nowadays instead of trying to close it. After all, there are TONS of golf courses in Alabama and only 4 ice rinks.

My husband will be married 41 yrs. this July 8th. We were married in the gazebo by my uncle. We lived in Ohio at the time and came to Alabama and decide Delano Park was a nice place for wedding. It has improved so much over the years and I'm so glad the original gazebo is still there. I love the rose garden.

Rhodes Ferry Park is one of the most important places in Decatur, Alabama, and not just because it is on our blessed Tennessee River! In the early 1800s, Decatur was known as "Rhodes Ferry Landing", named for Dr. Henry W. Rhodes, an early landowner who operated a ferry that crossed the Tennessee River in the 1810s at the present-day location of Rhodes Ferry Park. Thank you for posting these well produced videos on our "River City," especially this one.

No, the log house was found under the walls of a house on Well and Church streets. I saw it as the house around it was being dismantled. One other house was left...a house on Lafayette Street, although it has been totally remodeled. Heard the cannon booming today!

I think there were more than 3 buildings left. A house still standing and in use (though wholly remodeled) and a small log structure found under the walls of a house on Well and Church streets when the house was demolished. The Old State Bank owns the log house...now in pieces and in storage...somewhere.
