I hate to make it about me, but my setup is really simple and cheap as well. 10.7 comp 467bbc, runs on 91 pump gas, very basic street driven setup, hoping for low 10.30s next year with more gear and light weight parts. Bests so far, 10.48@127 & 6.59@103, 60ft 1.42 - 1.45 range, only about made 25 passes. I'm curious about your thoughts on a safe nitrous tune on a cast 2 bolt main bbc, forged pistons... I'm thinking about 100hp to 150hp shot to go 9s reliably.
@brokejoebuilds5165Ай бұрын
@chevyguy8 my opinion you can hit it with 250 to 300 with a proper tune up and not even sweat it with a proper tune up. You just need ring gap. What's the lobe sep on the cam? What gear and converter? What head? I can get you a ball park tune.

main cap and valve stud girdles are fake performance made in china garbage. Ive never seen these on a NHRA stock or super stock drag racer engine or on a daytona engine. I hope you get your ebgine built to your satisfaction.
@brokejoebuilds516529 күн бұрын
Depends on application, super stock all use shaft rockers if there anything close to fast and stockers weren't even allowed to have roller rockers till fairly recently. If you have 500lbs to 800lbs open, you can make do with a girdle. Any more shaft is mandatory. Also a 6000 rpm streeter no real need but 8500 rpm you better believe it.

@brokejoebuilds51653 ай бұрын
@JoshJarrell-t9t I'm putting a 406 together soon on the channel. I will be doing a complete price breakdown. I will be under 5k and it's more engine than this one. Parts are out there, networking is important. The more you do yourself the less you have to pay someone else to do. Transmission cost me parts cost, same with the rear. It would double or triple the cost to have someone else do it and once you do it yourself you gain knowledge and skill that carries over to the next project. I also get enjoyment when my junk blows out other cars that has more exotic parts and tons more money.

What about the valve guide and seal? Also was it possible the intake gasket around the bottom of the runners was not sealing 100% letting it pull oil into the ports? Also any bolts that thread into a port thats not a blind hole, like rocker studs could let oil in.
@brokejoebuilds51654 ай бұрын

@@brokejoebuilds5165 you going to re-ring it? If so if your pistons spec out the same and maintain balance you might try moving that piston to another hole and see if the problem follows it. I'm sorry to hear you weren't feeling well🤒 but am glad you're feeling better now. Hopefully you're on your way to 100%.😁 Cool, a 406 sbc build those are always fun. Maybe do it as a series, a block prep video, cam bearings and freeze plugs install video and so on until it's all together. A series of shorter videos instead of one long one and a short video for every video in the series to advertise the series. Then when the series is done you can do a short video to advertise the 406 build series in your playlist. And maybe a full length video of the entire series? Post one a day just make sure you can stick to the one a day schedule so people get used to watching them everyday. Or a weekly schedule, whichever works out better for you. And when you have maybe a track video that you're going to post, advertise it on the series video it will follow. And of coarse a short video plus advertise the next series video in the non series video. We need to get your channel monetized so you can do bigger and better things. What you do with nothing is amazing, I want to see what you can do with some extra financing. Dealers choice though, it's your channel. Good luck.😎👍

Make it happen Captain. Yeah, nowadays if you can't find a good machinist you're probably better off buying the equipment to do it yourself. Forgot the name of the channel but a guy on here used a True Hone to hone out .030" from a sbc block. A True Hone will make a hole round within probably .0003" so close enough. But a whole heck of a lot of work. He should of got a set of .010" over pistons to do that with.😳 But no machine shop jail. He refinished the decks with sandpaper attached to plywood with the crank on it to weigh it down.🙄 He should of used something that distributed the weight a lot more evenly. But all in all it should work out fine. Gotta love no machine shop jail and no machine shop bill even better. Those hones aren't free but if you're going to do more than 1 block with it, totally worth it if you like the workout.😎👍
