Is it good at cancelling the natural reverb of a non-sound-treated room? That would cost me less than acoustic panels ! (For spoken voice records only, of course. No music) *Edit* : found one old comment about that. But welcome if you can elaborate!

Possibly if used just like demoed; right on top of it. However, a more natural sound would to be not on top of it, bringing you back to the same scenario of too much room. Nothing can replace a well treated room.

Loved the video. I was wondering whether you could share your thoughts on a hi-fi system that uses a tube preamp with an integrated amp. Do you still get the same harmonics with such a system as a pure tube setup? Cheers.
@purewaveaudio
@purewaveaudio 2 ай бұрын
I believe you mean Tube Pre with Solid State amp. Here are a few things to consider. The preamp section is where most of the mojo will happen in comparison to the amp section. This is because the preamp is where we are focused on processing the signal and the amp section is focused on moving a speaker. Having a tube pre with solid state amp will give you most of the color from tubes in the system. Switching to a tube amp after the tube pre will be less of a difference in most cases. But, one thing you have to take into account with manufactures of tube equipment, is that they can design their circuitry to sound whatever they want it to be; bright, brittle, warm, harmonics , no harmonics. Just cause it has a tube in it, does not mean it will automatically be warm with plenty of harmonics. But it allows the option during the design phase to get to a warm sound with a lot of harmonics. Therefore the vision of the manufacture dictates what the overall soundscape of the product will be. Obviously it is in the manufactures best interest to use tube circuitry for its ability to create harmonics etc.., but due to budget constraints, marketing ploys and vision of the soundscape, this might not be the case. Even though this video was specifically for microphone preamps in the pro audio world, my statements here apply to Pro and the HiFi world.

@@purewaveaudio Thank you so much for the detailed explanation as well as the caution about the design considerations of the various manufacturers. I am not sure if you had a chance to listen to the C22 (Mark v) from McIntosh - their latest iteration of their C22 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier lineup......One other question if I may: I already have a McIntosh solid state integrated amp.....Would you recommend adding a tube preamp before the signal reaches the integrated amp? In other words, I was hoping to just use my integrated, instead of buying a dedicated solid state amp.....Hope that makes sense. I am guessing that the answer is no, since the signal will be going through 2 preamps, which doesn't make sense......Thanks again and Cheers!

@@Musical.Maze.1 Your path is correct. If you believe this will be a permanent setup just for that gear, then yes this would work. Otherwise if you need flexibility, we would introduce a patch bay and another set of cabling. Depending on the volume of your instruments, you can patch in directly or use a DI in-between. So it could be INST>patch>Preamp, then Preamp>patch>Interface.

The title is not how to. It explains you have to go to Yamaha tech support to go through their multiple different ways that are not published to finish the job. It also gives you the boundaries to know if you have the expertise to do so or yo need an IT person. Stupid or Gold?

Does the U87 sound like a stupid person?: Yes. I also noticed that on my own voice. All I say about these mics refers to using them in a whole mix. Not on solo tracks. u87 sounds great, very clear and big in a mix but a bit like a dumb guy. Or like an 80s Hollywood movie..Bill Murray in a dark office in a skyscraper...or something like that...there is something strange in the U87 and Neumann sound anyway.... That's why I bought an sv33 and no u87. BUT: the U87 sounds better overall....I am still struggling ..maybe I get an U87 although it sounds that "stupid". The sv33 sounds more natural. But the U87 has the better low end and more "transparency". SV33 sounds a bit narrow compared to it. And a bit smaller. But I feels great to sing into it. I have tried it with a Great River and a Chandler Germanium preamp. Both sound great but the Germanium makes the SV33 even better. The sv33 is quite a soft sounding mic. The Germanium provides a certain edge to it and make the voice sound warmer and stronger than with the Great River. The sv33 is a good mic. better than many many other mics (e.g better than Lauten Atlantis, Milab VIP 50 OR VIP 60 and several less expensive ones). And I have never used another mic that made me play acoustic guitar in such an easy way. The sv33 plays the guitar..not then player. Great mic.

I have several pairs of Direct Sounds for a few years. The EX-29's are OK for less than $50. They are not great for sound isolation and the sound is just OK. They are comfortable. I wanted a set of wireless ones and bought a pair as well. The sound is very poor. It Isolates a little better than 29's and are even more comfortable. I am going to use the wireless ones with a great set of in ears that already block outside noise when I want extreme protection. The in ears can not stick out too much or it becomes uncomfortable. For playing drums I would choose vic firth wireless. The are not as comfortable and very tight. They sound much better and block outside noise better as well. Not much room for in ears. I have Beyer Dynamics 770, and 1770, Focal Stellia's and more. The vic firth blocks out the most sound. They also make drums sound very good with out audio playing. I would choose Beyers and of course Stellia's for tracking except drums. I use focal clear MG's and LCD-5's with some leveling EQ for mixing and mastering. Bottom line is these are not great. If you pick up the wired versions for around $50 it's a good deal. Now that I've had these for a long time I would never pay more than that.

We have learned that all measures that lead to improved sound quality with analog audio signals are also effective with power cables and digital signals. That is not necessarily tied to skin effect though.

EARTHWORKS INTENTIONALLY MADE IRREPARABLE! Bought a second-hand SV33 for around 2000€, because it sounds amazing and wanted to have it for life. After it went dead the support said to toss it as its "not likely we'd be able to repair it if it’s related to the electronics as our mics are hardened on the inside". I understand, although I think it's totally wrong. Something I'd expect from Wish and AliExpress.

I was looking today to buy monitors, i was looking into the Yamaha HS5 and these they come up . I was very surprised as i didn't know sE Electronics had this product. I went to check reviews and videos and not only one i found that was ok , in the end i ended up buying them before someone would have pressed the bottom buy now😂 i think i have a decent monitors for my bedroom studio as the ones i have are from Reloop adm-5 😂 is quite an upgrade even compared to Yamaha HS5 😎
