Ì have just seen a Ben Fogle programme about the current couple on the island, which made no mention of any of the previous inhabitants or of Roger and Leslie's time there, a bad omission It was a shame i never visited the island. but I did go to their wedding in Dingle in 1975.

That's lovely to hear Clive! I shall tell my mum when I speak to her today. You can even pass on a message if you'd like. I'm sure she'd like that. She lives in Cornwall near my brother and his kids. @elauadeinsf10 ай бұрын
@@susanfrisby3762 I made a video of Marc dancing near the beach at the north end of Iona, and he had a unicorn head on. I had forgotten about this. I may have recorded him on the hill but can't remember. It's likely, we did go up there a lot. I have quite a bit of film of him from Iona. It's in my old place in Italy at the moment and I am retrieving it end of January. I can then send you what I have in a film and you can download and edit it. You can also use what you already have if you want to. Yes, you have permission. I could also make a film for you with the song, if you find it difficult to edit, I've edited a lot of films and have the software. Whatever you decide please do share with me the song! I have written a story about him myself and may well put it to film, in time. Marc was an amazing man. I really loved him to bits.

I remember there used to be a large ships bell hanging from a rope slung over the ruin, of a window, in one of the houses built around 1910 by the conjested district board.
@elauadeinsf10 ай бұрын
Yes, my father and a few others put it there. Now it's outside Peig Sayers' old house, nearby. I am not certain where the bell comes from - it could be that it was a central 'prop' made for the David Lean film 'Ryan's Daughter' and there is already at least one other prop on the island, the wooden bar inside the cafe building, which is faring really very well ! Thank you for your comment. I am releasing a few new short films and interviews on the island soon so feel free to subscribe to get notified.

I have spent many a few days camping on the great Blasket, mainly in the ruins of Tomás O'Criomthain's house, the first year I made the trip to Kerry was summer of 92, but have made my way to Dunquin, the weather was to bad to make the crossing. I was in 94 I eventually got across in an open punt, a Cork man married to a local took about 6 of us into the island. I spent a wonderful evening talking with one of the Dunleavy'S, Paddy I think was his first name, he came back every summer with his family to restore and winter damage to the house with the clochán opposite it, it was a dream come true to converse with him and his memories.
@elauadeinsf10 ай бұрын
Thank you so, I grew up on the island and remember Patti Dunleavy very well, he used to give my brother and I chocolate rolo's, he was the only other resident. He left a few stones in various places on the island with writing on, his name and perhaps something more. I hope they are still to be seen.

Living in rural Ireland was hard enough, those islanders, are/were really hardy folk - I'd like to think I could do it but I don't think I could. Great story about your parents and a time and place, when life was quieter and less complicated. Maith thu.
@elauadeinsf10 ай бұрын
Thank you - yes, it's harder to get that slow and present life nowadays but still possible. Once you get to a place like this you experience this quiet, and there are other islands (west of Scotland, west coast of Italy, and others) where the quiet life exists to this day.

Very deep feelings on Blasket Mor; spent a half day on my own walking the Island, beautiful summer's day. I was suffering from a very bad hangover after a late night in Dingle. The peaceful singing of the meadow pippets and the spirits of these great people brought me deep into myself. When leaving the island I was completely renewed; hangover gone and my woes had lifted and were taken away on the sweet Atlantic breeze
