I couldn't handle the CPAP. The oral devices didn't work either. Nasal opening devices wouldn't work either. I was warned that surgery could have some very bad side effects, like having problems swallowing. I've given up on ever curing my sleep apnia.

I can easily sleep 16 hrs in a day Been doing this my entire life but it's gotten worse with age. Doctors don't seem to take me seriously. I'm tired of sleeping my life away...husband is tired of it too. I just never feel rested

She has no idea whether Trazodone really works because she hasn't used it. This is always the drawback by doctors. They are not suffers of insomnia.

This info is so interesting, as I've been using a C-PAP machine for lots of years, and I'm interested in the tongue-shocking device to wear at night. So my tongue isn't strong, I'm realizing. How to I go about gettng checked out for it? I live in Jacksonville FL and will move to Gainesville by the new year.

I was just diagnosed last year, and only started get meds in October. I'm not a healthcare professional but I'd recommend seeing a Pulmonologist. They treat people with sleep disorders. My pulmonologist is a PCP and a Pulmonologist. I only see him as a pulmonologist and he has been great for me.

IHS sounds exactly what happens to me when I eat gluten. When I was 22 I was constantly sleepy. I could sleep 13 hrs straight, not feel awake, take a 5 hr nap, still not feeling awake. It had worsened gradually. At 22, in college, the only thing I wanted to do was sleep, no matter what else was going on. Brain fog like crazy. Cutting out wheat/ gluten took away all that. Now 15 years later... Many times I have eaten gluten since, unintentionally, found out the hard way how many things it can be in. Every time, it takes me 2/3 days to recover. And now I'm going for a sleep study for the first time in my life. Cause though I feel awake, I sleep through alarms frequently. I feel like I'm being forced to live with permanent jet lag. I can't imagine feeling sleepy all the time and having brain fog and dealing with this. I shared my story hoping someone may benefit from it.

It's so interesting to hear this. I've seen it with some of my patients as well...and personally, I also struggled with sleepiness and fatigue which improves significantly when I cut out gluten! Thank you for sharing your story.

Have RLS for 3 years , only now going to my doctor to start getting a correct diagnosis. This presentation is very helpful - especially discussion on iron. However feel final part of presentation is veering away from the science. But overall a very succinct and precise description of this horrible condition.

My parents both have diagnosed sleep apnea, my father developed heart disease from sleep apnea, and my sister has been using a CPAP to sleep. About ten years ago I also started to develop sleep apnea, and would wake up during the night choking. It was so debilitating, I was getting more and more exhausted. I then read about people who had great results from an anti-inflammatory diet and exercise, which I decided to try as I was so desperate not to have surgery or use a CPAP. I went 100% cold turkey on the following - alcohol, refined sugar, processed foods and wheat products such as bread etc. I also began walking daily. It wasn't easy, and some days I wanted to give in to the food cravings, but I was really determined to give it a go. I noticed gradual improvements in my sleep after a couple of weeks, and within two months my sleep apnea was gone, completely gone. Whole food and exercise really is medicine, and today I still sleep through the night and the whole food diet and exercise regimen is now just a daily habit, it's no longer a chore.
