Thank you so much for your video. It's so helpful for me. - I followed your instruction and executed them in R. However, after running "make all", it poped up an errors "Rscript --encoding=UTF-8 code/R/pull_wrds_data.R make: Rscript: No such file or directory make: *** [data/pulled/cstat_us_sample.rds] Error 1 Exited with status 2." - I have another question about the abbreviation of the database in WRDS (i.e., COMP.FUNDA as Compustat fundamental.). I am wondering how we can find the abbreviation of other databases in WRDS. Normally, I often download directly from the WRDS website, but it's not convenient in case we want to add or change variables.

Hi I'm writing my master thesis and I find the link (www.scopus.com) very interesting since I watched the video. But so far I can't get to the page as shown in the video. I'm going to "scopus preview" and the search is done by author. Can you please help me? I want to access the document search page like you.

Hi there. Thank you. Scopus is a service of Elsevier that your university needs to have a license for. Many but not all universities have one. Often, your institutional affiliation is checked by your IP address so it might be that you have to be within your universities network (directly or via VPN) to use Scopus. Alternatively, you can check whether your institution has a subscription to Web of Science. See also the blog post linked above. Good luck with your Master's Thesis!

Great video! Just on slide 6 the header should be "A graphical intuition". The "i" is missing :)

Thank you! Fixed in the slide deck (you will still have to live with the occasional typos in the videos, though 😉)

Here is the real thing: Anne Beyer and Ilan Guttmann (2012): Voluntary Disclosure, Manipulation, and Real Effects, Journal of Accounting Research, 50:2, pp. 1141-1177 (doi.org/10.1111/j.1475-679X.2012.00459.x). Another great paper for your reading list ;-)

Take me to the source! The paper that I talk about here is: Frank Gigler (1994): Self-Enforcing Voluntary Disclosures, Journal of Accounting Research 32: 2, pp. 224-240 (doi.org/10.2307/2491283). Well worth a read, I'd say!

Thanks, Joachim, for this cool video! I've enjoyed the honesty about how academics read papers. I tell my PhD students that at the beginning they must take some time to read (some) of the papers fully front-to-back, so that later on they can already intuit how some things are done and skip reading those parts. It's a necessary suffering for later gain :)
@jogassen3 жыл бұрын
Thanks and I agree... While you can get quite a bit of insights from skimming and familiarize yourself with the literature: To understand how to write good papers you have to read a lot of them back to back. If only I knew...

Mad Money is an investment guide. "Host Jim Cramer believes that there is always a bull market somewhere, and he wants to help you find it." I guess with enough followers he creates the bull markets.
