It is very disappointing that Samsung oled tv don't have dolby vision. I got their soundbar q990 and the intention was to get a s90c or s95c to use the Q symphony, I just realize that there is no Dolby vision and now I'll get a LG tv instead. I am so very disappointed, that I almost regret getting the q990, and should have gone with the JBL1300X that has real wireless rear speakers. At least the q990 is still the best in class.

I've been burned by kickstarters before and never invested in one this expensive. Do you think they have theined in their budget to atleast keep the servers going for codes?

Power consumption should be included in the list of considerations. A 10GbE port draws 8-10W _continuously_ - even when there is no traffic. This is about 10x that of SFP+. The 802.11az standard will address this but widespread availability seems to be quite distant. Depending on local electricity prices, the operating costs (including cooling) of a 10GbE home network could be enough to tip the balance in favour of SFP+.
@DailyTechNews.mp4Ай бұрын
Agreed! Adds up if you have 10G ports on your clients, server, switches... quite a bit extra; 2,5 & 5G are way more efficient.

SSDs and their speed pretty much blasted the door wide open for faster home networking. Where a fast home network used to be a waste of money aside from the richest lf homelabbers among us, it now is a necessity for most tinkerers as the bottlenecking is quite severe (gigabit doesn't mean 1000 mo/s after all... So far from it). Why spend all that money and time on a NAS when gigabit network speeds mean that it wont be all that practical to use? Why build a NAS in the first place when users are going to overload the network as soon as they start streaming something heavy from the NAS? Gigabit is meh, 2.5G is "reasonable" for most users, 10G for the enthusiast and 25G for the enthusiast with deep pockets. We need someone to come along and create a new protocol.. it was never meant to be pushed this hard in a consummer's environment.

I don't get it. What's the point of the transceiver?
@BuzStringerАй бұрын
The transceiver converts whichever cable to SFP, so you can plug fiber into one port, ethernet into another and it just works. Don't need to buy a fiber switch or ethernet switch. So an SFP switch doesn't really care which type of cable you are using, you can use whichever is best for your setup. Short high speed fibre, a bunch of Ethernet clients, and long range fibre, all working together in the same switch.
@LearningGuy-y6fАй бұрын
@@BuzStringer awesome. Thank you. So it's versatile. I didn't realize that. But what's really got me tripped up is that transceivers send and receive electrical signals. But any cable, whether it be ethernet, fiber or whatever, has electrical signal being sent through it via the server/host device. So, for example, why does a Direct Attach Copper (DAC) or any other cable need the transceivers?

For anyone who watches this in the future. There is a good solid option for these cables: CableMod and Bitfenix (I got the latter) they appear to be the exact same cable. You can see very blatantly the quality difference between those and the cheapo ones. I have one infront of me and one in my server. Much more solid than mustard cables, and personally I would trust these. Running a 12TB WD Ultrastar on mine lol

I haven't been able to try the Remote 3 yet, but i have been using the R2 everyday for a while. and i had to send the RS90 back (as it was a sample). Hopefully i can try the R3 soon, the R2's software, although not completed yet, was a lot further ahead than the RS90 at the time of testing, so the R2 worked with everything pretty much and was really good at it. the R2/R3 has the edge with home assistant support (fully working) and not needing an account or to go through a cloud. the RS90 had a long way to go with software, and you needed to create an account in an app to use it. The R2/R3 doesn't need any app. The last 2 (HA & no app) are really important to me and my setup, RS90 might change and deliver those things, but i have been really happy using my R2.

@@rue2241 I actually decided to back the R3 yesterday. First Kickstarter I've backed for the same reason but A - their goal was 200,000 euros, it's over 1.5 million euros at this point B - While they had issues with stuff not being ready at launch of the R2, the R3 runs the same software so everything working on the R2 will work on the R3 (plus some extras). It runs a stripped down custom Linux OS on ARM, similar to this which is a stripped down highly customized version of Android. They have already started production. Everything but the hardware is open source, open sour e free API for developers and third party integrations, including user integrations in the future. I'm glad there is another remote maker out there following the same path, especially with Home Assistant but the R3 has an internal webpage for configuration with drag and drop support or you can configure directly on the remote. This using an Android app just seems like it would be "more fun" to set up or make changes.

SFP28 is indeed 28Gbit just like 1gbit transceiver is NOT actually 1gbit. Look at the transceiver itself it will say a number larger than 1000 or 1024. I think it's like 1.12 or something like that. I don't remember someone will correct me because they know what it actually says and theyll try to infer that means they also knew why 25Gbit SFP28 is called SFP28 instead of 25 but they didn't make the connection till I mentioned the raw speed of a 1gbit transceiver.

Nothing beats the Logitech Harmony remotes. Eeeeexcept once the Logitech starts going, and gets glitchy, then something "not quite as good" can actually be better. My wife dropped our Harmony in the bedroom one too many times, and it's not super reliable anymore. The Sofabaton U2 has come in as a fairly viable replacement. It's missing some things, but it's getting better. Some things will need new hardware, others might be accomplished via software updates. First and foremost, if you have not yet cut the cord, there are some serious missing buttons. Exh A: There's no "Record" button. Like if you want to record a show to your DVR. There's no "List" to view the list of recorded shows, or "Guide" to show the live TV grid. There's no skip (vs FF). Sometimes you can reprogram unused buttons to take the place, but (a) some devices don't leave a lot of unused buttons, and (b) those buttons are rarely ideally placed. This made this a non-starter for my in-laws and parents, both of whom still heavily use their DVRs (cable and satellite). We were excited to try a viable replacement, but they quickly ran into a wall with those important missing buttons. If you have cut the cord, however, the more minimalist buttons (not as extreme as the X1 which sadly is out of the running... I need physical buttons!) likely meet *most* needs. The fewer and simpler your device lineup, the more likely it is to work and work well. Macros are nice but some actual activity based controls would be nicer, especially in terms of recovery when one device or another misses a command, which seems to happen annoyingly often. As another commenter pointed out, the ability to SAVE a configuration would be huge, along with being able to copy a setup to another remote. As it is now if you have to reset for any reason, you can't just restore, you're starting from scratch. Hope you remember all the settings tweaks you made over time! This is already a good remote. It wouldn't take much more to make it really great, however.

U2 is frustratingly ALMOST there ... needs ... (a) ability to backup/restore. Can take a while to program, if it resets ... got to do it ALL again (b) ability to copy one remote to another as a starting point ... otherwise ... repetition! (c) macro's only 4 commands long? I mean, come on, really?? (At least 10 needed)

Looking forward to that part 2 audio video. Also do you have any wisdom on 4k uhd players and the pros and cons of fiscal media over streaming?
@BuzStringer3 ай бұрын
Hi, good question, yes so 4K Blu-ray disks are always going to be higher quality than streaming, and will offer full uncompressed Dolby Atmos (if the content is mastered in Atmos). Atmos on all the streaming services is compressed. The Video bitrate from a disk is much higher than streaming so the video will look better in most cases. It will be this way for a good number years. with Standard HD and non 4K Blu-ray there isn't much difference to streaming anymore. Streaming is more convenient than having loads of disks, that's pretty much all it has. I'll go into more technical detail in the Q&A part 3, but I really liked this question
